Am I the only one who just can't picture Johnny Depp as the Baker? I think he would be a good wolf. But the Baker? And how are they suppose to make Meryl Streep look young again for the second act?

It seems like they're considering Depp for the Wolf, because it was announced today that James Corden is also in talks. Corden played the Baker in the October readings of the screenplay !

They should look at John Cleese or Eric Idle of Narrator

I don't know how they will use the narrator for the movie.

In one of the casting notice, they referred as "voice-over narrator"

then they would have to change the scene where the narrator is given to the giant. Pity.

I think that would be hilarious if until the "Giant scene", you only hear the narrator as a voice-over. People that are not familiar with the show would think it's only a voice-over narrator. Then, in the "Giant scene", the camera make a 180 degree turn and you see, as Salome said, the narrator hiding under a tree, with a suit on (like the one Tom Aldredge wore in the original Broadway production).

My picks for the voice-over narrator :
-James Earl Jones
-Eric Idle
-Christopher Lee
-Ian McKellen
-Patrick Stewart

I'm just worried they're focusing too much on stunt casting rather than finding people appropriate for the roles. I'm interested to see what Corden does with the Baker, but good God Streep as the witch is all kinds of wrong.

Yeah this is not giving me much hope.

For now, it seems that she's only auditionning. Let's hope they don't like her.
