Post Directing ITW - Revival Lyrics
So, I've been hired to direct an outdoor production of Into the Woods this coming summer and listening to the Revival, I really like some of the lyrics changes.

I especially like the new lyrics for Last Midnight where the Witch sings to the Baker's son....though I prefer the original ending with "Boom Crunch"

Curious what others think?

I do like the altenate lyrics. ALOT. And it's something fresh to add to such a well known musical.
I'm not a huge fan of Boom Crunch...but that's just me.
Break a Leg with your production!!! :D

I do not care for the lyric changes. Which is why I suggest heavily advertising that your production will be the revival version. Otherwise, you'll get a lot of theatergoers expecting the original and being disapointed (just like I was).

I don't really see the big deal. If you want to use the revival lyrics, go for it. And advertising it as "with revival lyrics" seems kinda pointless. It's not like it's gonna be a huge, regional, transfer-to-Broadway, production. No one will probably notice.

It doesn't matter what type of production it is. You get what you pay for, and I paid and traveled to see something that was inproperly advertised. I'll give you another example: I adore Annie Get Your Gun and a local theater was doing it. And as most of you know, there's three different versions of the book and score for that show. Well, I wasn't going to pay to see the Peter Stone re-write, so I called the box office to see what version they were doing. When the attendant couldn't tell me, I decided to forgo the whole show. You're probably right that most people wouldn't notice, but all I'm saying is that a theater's publicity department should account for at least a couple people knowing about the different versions and should advertise accordingly.

I mean, the fact of the matter is that you are licensed to do the show that MTI provides you with. Having seen the revised scripts/score recently, there are some changes from the original, including in "No One is Alone" and in the "Witch's Lament."
