Post cinderella audition song- Sondheim or not Sondheim?
I am auditioning for the part of Cinderella at a University. I will not be able to choose a song from the show so I have to find other audition material. I keep hearing conflicting advice on whether or not I should sing a Sondheim song. Should I? and if so, what Sondheim songs could work for CInderella? I have sang Green Finch and Linnett Bird for a prior audition for the same people, so I do not want to use it for this audition. Oh! and if anyone knows of fantastic monologues, that would be extremely helpful too. Any advice??

Because Sondheim has such a distinctive style, I think it makes perfect sense to sing a Sondheim song for a Sondheim audition. I agree that you should stay away from Green Finch, not only because of the reasons you gave, but also because it's pretty overdone. I played Cinderella earlier this year and auditioned with "Soon" from A Little Night Music. I also considered "Take Me to the World" from Evening Primrose.

Break a leg, and let us know how you go!
