Maybe you can address your director from a practical stand point with the bowing order.
Maybe talk about you'll have so much background music that it'd make more sense to break some of the groups up a bit. That way more of the "Curtain Call Music" is taken up with actual boring. Or suggest that they just follow the DVD bowing bow per bow that way nobody feels left out.
Worst comes to worse maybe if you and Jack's Mother both talked to your directors you wouldn't seem like the singular Diva.
Well good luck either way with getting a better bow

But we learned our curtain call today, and guess where I am: Wood Sprites (chorus) Snow White, Sleeping Beauty Cinderella's Mother, Granny, Jack's Mother, Rapunzel(all lumped together in a chorus-like bow. no seperate bows.) Lucinda, Florinda, Stepmother, Cinderella's Father, Steward (same, all together) Wolf Princes Little Red Jack Cinderella Baker & Baker's Wife Narator/ Mysterious Man Witch .... this does not make me happy. I would think that Jack's Mother and I would at least be after the Royal Family, if not the Wolf too....I'm trying to come with a way to ask my director about this without sounding diva-like. If I don't, I feel like being a diva anyways because I have put too much into this show to virtually be treated as one-step above the lame wood-nymphs that we added in. | | | | |
I feel bad for you! You seem so happy in your role, and your production looks like it'll be great...
But that's screwed up. I take it Cinderella's Prince and the Wolf won't be getting played by the same guy? In that case, you and Jack's Mother should bow together after the Wolf but before the Princes.

That sounds like a pretty fair Curtain Call to me actually. It's pretty similar to the OBC video though I always thought it'd be cute if Jack and Little Red came out and bowed together since I think they basically are equal as to importance in the show.

I'm currently directing INTO THE WOODS and here's how I'm planning my curtain call to go:
(we don't have a Snow White or Sleeping Beauty)
Cinderella's Father/Stepmother/Florinda/Lucinda/Granny/Steward
Rapunzel/Rapunzel's Prince/Jack's Mother
Narrator-Mysterious Man
Wolf-Cinderella's Prince
Little Red Ridinghood
Jack
Cinderella
Witch
Baker's Wife
Baker

thanks for reviving this thread, dude
my order would be....
Slepping Beauty/Snow White
Cinderella's Father/Stepmother/
Florinda/Lucinda
Granny/Steward
Rapunzel/Rapunzel's Prince
Jack's Mother
Narrator/Mysterious Man
Wolf/Cinderella's Prince
Little Red Ridinghood
Jack
Cinderella
Witch
Baker's Wife/Baker
i'd make the last two actors go down togather, because they are both very influencial on the plot, and are what the audience follows form the start...

The only thing I would switch are the Baker and the Witch.

I don't like the Witch bowing last unless, like Bernadette, you have a star in the role whose name is selling the production. Her role is really quite small - if you break it down to volume of dialogue, she is about a quarter of the size of the BW. Remember, this is the story of the Baker and his wife, with the other characters crossing the path of that story. The two should share the final bow.

My director had everyone bow in pairs-and Cinderella (me) and the Narrator/Mysterious Man had the last bow. I thought it was pretty unusual, because I thought for sure the Witch or the Baker and his Wife would have the last bow, but I guess it worked, since we both start the show I guess it would make sense to end the show together. I'm not exactly sure what his logic about us sharing the last bow was though, I never really asked. He actually had the Witch bow with Rapunzel, then the Baker and his Wife, and then Cinderella and the Narrator/Mysterious Man.
Our curtain call looked like this:
Sleeping Beauty/Snow White
Florinda/Lucinda
Stepmother/Cinderella's Father
Jack's Mother/Steward
Cinderella's Prince/Rapunzel's Prince
Little Red/Jack
Rapunzel/Witch
Baker/Baker's Wife
Cinderella/Mysterious Man/Narrator

Agreed, UNLESS of course, like Beagle said, you have a "star", or "reputable name" in the role. When I did the show for a children's theatre and played the Baker, I bowed 2nd to last with the Witch (my friend Kara, and as Lyss will attest as well, the "star" of Syracuse) bowing last. It only seemed appropriate.

Our curtain call was a little untraditional because the director opted to (mostly) group families/storylines together. So we had:
Snow White/Milky White, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella's Mother
Cinderella’s Father, Stepmother, Lucinda, Florinda
Rapunzel, Rapunzel’s Prince, Witch
Jack, Jack’s Mother, Little Red, Granny
Cinderella, Cinderella’s Prince/Wolf, Steward
Baker, Baker’s Wife, Narrator/Mysterious Man
And then the six leads (Baker, Baker's Wife, Cinderella, Little Red, Jack, and Witch) took a separate bow together before the company bow.
