Post Changes in the new revival...
Let's list all the changes and alterations in the new revival:

Baby June is portrayed as self-absorbed and bitchy, not nice and loving to her sister.

The "beam of light" in Rose's Turn

New lyrics in "Together Wherever We Go?"

Alternate staging of the ending- no true reconciliation.

Herbie is played as a somewhat tougher, darker character.

Was Tulsa always that... um... disturbing, as he is on the cast recording? "WHYYYYY NOT, BABY JUUUUUUUUNE?"

So wave one bachelor goodbye,
She'll be your bride- she'd rather die
Than have her daddy ossify
In my sordid saloon..."

That wasn't Tulsa, that was one of the other boys. And when I saw it, he didn't seem disturbing, in fact he was very good.....

Okay. The script for the original says it's Tulsa, and on the CD it sounds like him.

The Little Lamb is a puppet.
Herbie is given more of a vocal presence in songs where he was usually just a silent participant, i.e. "Together Wherever We Go," "Mr. Goldstone," etc.

This one might seem unimportant, but Baby June's "yessir" in Baby June and her Newsboys.

Well, all of these things are just different interpretations of the director. Plus, I don't think he would change the script. After all, he wrote it.

there are no new lyrics in Together Wherever We Go. you can hear those lyrics on the Original London Cast with Angela Lansbury. (which if you dont own you need to ..its the best recording of teh show).

June was portrayed as a bitch in the Peter's revival. and Kate Reinders did it exceptionally well.

I know they're director interpretations, but interpretations can change a show a lot. Especially since the show's been considered "perfect, so let's not change a thing" for decades.

uhm the only cast recording in which that happens is the OBC Herbie always sings alot in Together and he has 3 lines in goldstone.

Perhaps, but the OBC and common license script give him much less to do than his Broadway counterparts over time have.

well theOBC was done that way because Jack Klugman was not a singer and he didnt like his own voice. however Klugman is still the Herbie all others are judged by.

Yeah. He was the best-acted Herbie, singer or not.

Still, I'd love to see a great actor AND singer tackle the role- one who could match Klugman's depth, but handle the musical material as well. That's why I keep recommending Christopher Walken as a Herbie- his recent descents into camp have distracted people from the fact that he's one of the greats of this generation, and one of the last true triple threats as well.

It wasn't Tulsa when I saw it either.
It was another one of the boys. It wasn't disturbing but actually quite funny. To me, it implied the silliness that these boys would have resorted to after so many months doing this stupid act.
