I've noticed that Annie is always in her chest voice (even on the high note in Tomorrow). Is this always the case?

Well, not having read the score, I don't know if it needs to be sung in chest voice, but I think it sounds better like that - more powerful.

I'm just asking about the shows, lol.
Like, does Annie always sing in all chest no matter what in all of her songs in all shows or is that just how they did it in the film?
I've been wondering that for a LONG time now.. ever since I got my 'Annie' sound track years ago!

Post Yeah......
I'm sorry, not to be rude....but in my own opinion, I feel that a cheast voice is the whole point of picking an Annie! She doesn't really have to dance, and she could stink at acting, but when she opens her mouth, you should hear a loud brassy girl, singing of a better place.

When I did the show, one girl sang the whole song in her cheast voice loudly. Right then, everyones casting bells went off, "ding ding ding, she's got the part." Thats why its so hard to get the part, its HARD to sing that whole song in your cheast voice, and admire people who do.

As a alto/belter myself, I worked hard to be able to do that to, and I love how it sounds when young girls do it, and how much work they must have done, it seems so "Broadway" to me.

So, maybe she doesnt have to, its just my opinion, but she should, cheast or head, be loud. 'cause thats Annie.

I usually get quite worried when they use someone really, really, young and she sings in chest on the higher notes. IMO, children shouldn't be belting at all, but I'm not exactly an expert in voice. Just worried.

I was reading through my script the other day and I realised that the two big solos, Maybe and Tommorow areten minutes of each other. I find it a bit harsh on the nine year old picked for her.

Agreed. It does worry me of the damage they could do to their cords in the future.

I did it basically in all head voice, and Maybe, though almost right before Tomorrow, really wasn't that rigorous. Tomorrow was HELL, HELL, I tell you. But I definitely think Annie should sing in chest voice at least MOST of the time, just for her character's personality's sake.
