Post Anyone else play multiple roles??
Opening night is on Saturday ... and the director decided she liked my voice and I play Sophie the Hoovelite cook, Annette the maid, Star to Be and Bonnie Boylan. Makes for interesting costume changes! Anyone else play lots of roles? Just wondering ...

Annie was double cast, so on the night either of us wasn't Annie, we were Star-to-be.

I had four roles in the Annie Jr. production I was in- Apple Seller, Cecile, Radio Announcer, and NYC chorus. Then when we revived it for a competition I played Duffy and the Radio Announcer (the scenes with the other characters were cut). My changes for the original weren't to crazy, I had a basic black shirt and I put on different coats. The second time I had a crazy fast change from Duffy to the Radio Annoucner, and the back to Duffy.

Loads of the couple liner characters can be doubled.

The one's that I wouldn't chose to double are:
Annie
Warbucks
Grace
Hannigan (sp?)

When I was Mrs. Hannigan In Annie they had me be a Maid in "I think I'm gonna like it here" and they had me be a New yorker in "NYC". There was alot of quick changing.

Our production had an extremely small ensemble, so pretty much everyone (except the kids, Warbucks, Grace and Miss Hannigan) ended up playing more than one role. Though my main role was Lily, I also played Annie's mother at the beginning (a bit our director added in the overture), Woman #1 in Hooverville, and a random chorus person in NYC. One of the ensemble women had almost the exact same role combination as you -- Sophie, Star-to-Be, Boylan Sister (she was also Mrs. Greer). And yes, there were a lot of quick back-stage changes!

WTF? They didn't show you dying, did they?

Anyways, since there are soooooooooooooo many characters in Annie, it's typical for doubling.

All of the couple liner characters could be doubled, eg, the talking parts in Hoovervile, the Cabinet, the servants.

We had a double cast. I was Grace in one cast and an NYCer in another...

But basically the only reason we even had a double cast is the director couldn't decide. She told me after it was over that one cast was based on talent and the other cast was based on either Seniority or they were just her favourites.

Don't I wish! Dying on stage is always fun. Nah, they just had the parents (oddly enough played by the same actors as Lily and Rooster) dropping off Annie at Miss Hannigan's orphanage.

This particular director always has some mute action going on during the overtures of his shows. I think it's because it's an outdoor theatre, and he wants the audience to be really, REALLY sure that the show is about to start.
