My friend had a pretty interesting idea about Evita (we've been discussing it a lot since we got our tickets for the Stratford Production. Check it out!).

But my friend had the idea of having the Mistress shot at the end of 'Another Suitcase In Another Hall'. She thought it would be an interesting and effective end for the character. After Peron sings 'don't ask anymore', the Mistress would go offstage and the audience would hear a single gunshot.

My friend feels that it would be a telling hint of just what went onin that sort of totalitarian regime. I personally think that the idea blows subtlety out of the water. What do all of you think?

Stupid idea. Makes the whole thing look like some kind of joke.

My sentiments exactly. I feel it is much more poignant to have the Mistress exit at the end and never be heard of again. To have her killed would seem somewhat frivolous; already Peron has guaranteed that she will not be able to lead a desirable life. Being the mistress of a military goon would probably blackball her if she looks for a job or a husband.

Besides, it's a bit part. Not enough there to work with and having her killed would be random and strange.

It would be like stoning the Pharaoh's Wife in Dreamcoat to death for her adultery.
