Post Line from London Cast Evita
We have at least 3 versions of Evita - the American, London and now movie version. In the London version, when Eva is making her bid to Juan for Vice president, she sings "Conservatives are kings of compromise. It hurts them more to jeer, than to applaud." (It then goes on to "and I will have, my people come to choose....").

Does anyone have any insight into this line/what it means?

Just curious.

Thanks!

Tammy

She's criticising people who are happy with the status quo, as opposed to people who take radical action to change it.

She's saying that conservative-minded people will always compromise with whoever has power at the time: they find it easier to just applaud whatever's being said than to criticise it.
