Post Che... based on Che Guevara, but is not really supposed to BE Che Guevara. Confused? Eva and Che actually existed in different times, but the character of Che in Evita was inspired by Che Guevara.

When Rice and Lloyd Webber wrote Evita they named the narrator Che, simply because it was a common name at the time in Argentina and they wanted him to represent the common man. I think Che means "Guy" or "Dude" or something like that.

Hal Prince, who directed the original production, wanted the character to be Che Guevara so David Essex played the part as the famous rebel.

They actually were both alive and in Argentina together... at the time of the Musical-- Thats where the line, "Who am I who dares to keep, his head up high while millions weap...Opprotunist? Traitor? Fool? Or just a man who grew and saw... From 17 to 24..." Also in the original recording, he talks about his study as a chemist, making pesticides... Exactly what he was studying during those years.

However, theres no doubt they had any interaction like he has with her in the show.

There is no such thing as a stupid question.

The part was originally going to be Eva's hairdresser. But Rice started reading about Che and just changed the role to "Che." He's not really the historical figure.

On the West End and Broadway, the actor was given the historical figure's persona (with new lyrics from Rice).

The film and revival had the original concept of Rice's as just an Argentine who is known as Che. Just a guy on the street. Hence, the everyman character he is.
