Post Re: Gershwins' Pardon My English in NYC 2015
Has anyone here seen stagings of any of the original Gershwin shows other than Porgy and Bess? (Crazy for You, 'S wonderful, My One and Only and Nice Work are newer works). I saw the Encores' Of Thee I Sing in 2006 with Victor Garber in NYC, Lady Be Good! in 1998 in Edmonton, AB, and Pegasus Players' Strike Up the Band in 1994 in Chicago. I produced & directed SUTB the next year in Williamsburg, VA. The Edmonton LBG was obviously influenced by RENT with emphasis on themes of hunger, homelessness and sycophancy, with the alchoholic character changed to a druggie. Few or no references to the 1920s and a cast of 8 with some doubling, Also a prologue with the cast doing various rhythmic sounds. 2 pianos onstage. I've also seen the video of Encores' Pardon My English at the Lincoln Center library for research. Also has anyone seen Gershwin at Folly in Charleston, SC?
