Definitely. In our production, after Cinderella, the stepsisters received the most applause. Although the kings henchmen (Herald, Chef, Steward) and King and Queen have potential to be show stealers.

It all depends upon the staging and the people in the roles.

Amen.
Just saw Cinderella at a 'professional' theater and the Lament was... just frightening. It was loud and brash and grating, and frantic... Portia was good, but Joy looked older than the stepmother... and most of their acting choices were... cliche.

Definitely! But it depends on who is cast as the stepsisters'. They can easily be dull and lifeless with no character. Or- they could just as easily steal the show!!!! Portia, by far, has the funniest lines in the whole show. I was in Cinderella (and just recently finished our run of shows) and (not bragging) I stole the show from our Cinderella. You just have to have energy and have a complete love and devotion to the character. It was so hard to give Portia up, but I loved that part soo much and she will always be in my heart(:
