Post Cinderella's Glass Slipper
I love this play! It's so much fun. I played Cinderella 2 yrs ago. I don't have the score but if you need any advice...

:D And yes you def. want just a clear shoe. W/out straps and preferably with backs (I made that mistake) :D

ranges are EXTREMELY easy. if you're mezzo/soprano/alto you can sing pretty much any of the girl parts. boys, there is one bass (majordomo) and one tenor (the prince)

characters are...

Stepmother- biggest part in the play. Strong actress, big solos in songs.

Cleopatra- the funnier stepsister. the girl who played this stole the show. goofy and physical comedy, solos in songs.

Brunhilda- the sarcastic stepsister, solos in songs

Cinderella- you need a strong actress to play this. ours wasn't and the show kind of fell flat. 1 solo and 1 duet with the prince. Able to dance.

Fairy Godmother- fun role! big solos in songs. solo lines in others.

The Apprentice- Learning magic from the Fairy Godmother. Young. Solo lines.

Majordomo- Announces the ball. Funny. Will steal the show. Solo in one song. Biggest male role.

Prince- Strong actor. Duet with Cinderella.

Cat- doesn't talk, must be able to dance and sing. Sings some lines with Mouse and Pumpkin.

Mouse- ''

Pumpkin Head- Sings with Cat and Mouse. Some dance.

Queen- No songs, just lines. Motherly and strict.

Troubadour- Solos. Man in the script, but ours was played by three girls. No lines, just singing.

And a large chorus. Some oppurtunities for speaking parts for chorus and some names.

The play is basically the story of Cinderella. It's goofy and meant for children. We did it at my highschool.

I'll post more later, but i have to go to work.

This IS NOT the R & H version of the musical... not the same characters at all....

and the glass slipper IS in the R&H version.

Roles in R&H Cinderella:
Cinderella
Prince
Queen
King
Stepmother
Joy (stepsister)
Portia (stepsister)
Godmother
Herald
Chef
Steward
various chorus and small roles

All vocal ranges are easy.
The show is not necessarily just for kids.

Post Two different shows....
The original post was not referring to Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella, but a show called Cinderella's Glass Slipper.

I don't believe that there is any dialogue in Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella specifying that the slipper is made of glass, although there are references in the stage directions that indicate this. Even so, I don't think the slipper has to be transparent at all. The one in my production certainly wasn't - but it was beautiful, especially under the light.

actually in the R&H version, the fairy godmother says, " A slipper made of glass, is still a shoe."

Actually, that line is only in the most recent TV adaptation and does not appear in the licenced materials for the stage show.

i thought so too until we ordered a perusal (or whatever that word is lol) copy of the script. the script was brand new so they might have added it in recently or something because i read an older copy like 4 years ago and it didn't have it.

Post Revision?
It must have been revised very recently because I just did the show last month and it not appear in the script or score we were sent.
