A friend of mine is in a production of Chorus Line and she really wants me to come see it, but I'm basically morally opposed to the, um, choices they made in the production. For one, she's Connie, who is now southern. There is no Larry, and Richie is "Micki." Apparently, Cassie is at the initial audition, and I have very low expectations for the choreography. Plus, they're doing it in a very small space. Anyway, would you go support your friend or stage a mini-protest?

Well, I know that if an Asian Connie isn't used, there is information to replace her as Southern instead (various line changes, etc).

..but the other stuff seems pretty weird. I think I'd still go and see it, though, a) because it's my friend, and b) it sounds pretty strange, so i'd want to put some of the thoughts to rest. Who knows, it might turn out to be pretty interesting!

Well, I didn't end up going (had other places to be). It's probably better that way...would have complained the entire time anyway!

Yea, there is a scripted alternative if Connie isn't Asian... she changes from Connie Wong, to Connie MacKenzie.
And in the musical, Cassie is meant to be at the initial audition. Its scripted that she's there although she doesn't sing. We had our Cassie singing as well, it drew too much attention when she was the only on stage not singing.
I've seen a production where Larry and Zach were the same person.... i didnt really like it coz it exposes too much of Zach too early but it didn't look wrong.
And A Chorus Line can be even more effective in a small space, as long as you have mirrors, tight choreo, the stage is completely full at the end and its wide enough to fit the line.

Timmmmmmmy! :D
