Post Ashlee Simpson as Roxie on Broadway
Ashlee Simpson-Wentz will be treading the boards again, this time in the Broadway production of Chicago:

Andrew Gans at Playbill wrote:
Simpson-Wentz will begin performances at Broadway's Ambassador Theatre Nov. 30. She will play a limited engagement as the merry murderess through Feb. 7, 2010. "I'm honored to be reprising my role as Roxie Hart, returning to the stage and joining this amazing cast," said Simpson-Wentz in a statement. "Being on Broadway is a childhood dream come true."

It's also confirmed at BroadwayWorld, and you can see a number of pictures from her first performance curtain call here. Anyone rushed out to get their tickets yet?

Later days
David

I didn't rush out to get them but I DID see it. Saw it at Christmas time. I don't know about anyone else but I didn;t even realize she was playing the role of Roxie until I was in line to be seated... I was presumtuous in assuming that I would find it horrible. In fact, it wasn't terrifying and I had NO idea she could dance like that. Now this isn't to say that I think the character work she conjured up was all that great. Her comedic timing was fairly off which was also a let down but hey, I didn't want my money back either. I honestly felt the same way about Deidre Goodwin playing Velma. Great dancer, so so actress. Cell Block Tango was a bust and it's one of my favorite numbers in the whole show. :( But hey, I'm not at their level, am I? So shame on me! Roz Ryan as "Mama", Raymond Bokhour as Amos, and Brent Barrett as Billy Flynn all blew me away though. All in all, it was fun!

Here are some highlights from her performance. Vocally she sounded pretty good. :)

Much better than Christie Brinkley, what a disaster...

She's not bad, but she's totally channeling Rene Zellweger in the film.

Having seen this production numerous times, the stage version is lighter in tone and this number has always been performed on stage with a zaniness that is completely absent from Ms. Simpson's performance. It is sort of cardboard, too, due to the way she gives the impression she's having a nice time singing as herself. I don't see a Roxie up there. And "not seeing a Roxie there" has nothing to do with interpretation, which is separate from acting which is what's missing.
