Post Pia Douwes in Chicago on West End
Pia Douwes will play a leading role in the musical Chicago in London. From 14 September Douwes will play the role of Velma Kelly in the Cambridge Theater for six weeks. She fulfilled that role earlier in 1999 in the Dutch version of Chicago and in 2004 at West End and on Broadway.

Pia Douwes: ’Since I have played that role in London, I got a call every six months if I wanted to come back. Yes, of course I wanted to, with great pleasure. But there was always something else to do. Now Sunset Boulevard is finished and the next major task on the agenda is the Dutch TV program ‘In search of Mary Poppins’ in December, I’ll finally have the time.’

Pia Douwes is one of the few Dutch musical stars who frequently cross the borders. Besides her role in Chicago she played the leading role hundred of times in the Austrian and German versions of Elisabeth and also in both the Dutch and German productions of 3 Musketeers.

I love Pia Douwes. Probably my favorite European performer.

But no, I haven't seen her.

I would love to see her in London, but I can't. I did see her in Elisabeth and Sunset Boulevard. She's great.

Actually, Ruthie Henshall is playing Roxie (I saw it yesterday!) but I think she's leaving pretty soon.

My apologies Lauraa, you are correct, Emma Barton does not take over the role until April 26 and until them it is indeed Ruthie Henshall, thanks for pointiing that out! :D
