Post The missing song from the soundtrack
Does anyone know why they didn't put all the songs on the soundtrack cds? And why they didn't put the growtigers last stand on the VHS tape?

Just wondering..

You mean cast recordings?

I cannot answer why some songs are removed from the recordings other than expense and time reasons. Some of MJ & RT was cut from the video, and P&P was cut from some recordings for that reason.

Now Growltigers.... Obviously, Sir John Mills was not capable to play Growltiger. Check the WIKI site at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cats_%28film%29 (or GOOGLE "CATS video wiki") for some of the facts on the video. According to this site, Tony Timberlake (Asparagus) was supposed to perform Growltiger, but time forced the action to be cut.

I also noticed the last time I watched it, that parts of the Jellicle Ball were cut too.

The answer to all is time. The cast recordings had to fit on a record, and were then edited again for cassette, where each side had to be the same length.
The film is edited and cut to run under two hours, chopping half an hour of the show out (Gumbie Cat, Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer, Jellicle Ball and Mistoffelees all have cuts. The cuts to Macavity were made on the London stage before the film was made).

So is that why the song The Pekes and The Pollicles was edited out of the soundtrack? Didn't realized the dances were cut in the video, althou I have only seen the play live twice in my life, the first time 2nd row center and the other time FAR away from the stage. Love having the VHS tape as it seem to me I got to see more of the action in the background. ;0) I wonder if there is any chance to get a director's cut, so to speak, using the format of DVD since there is more room on a dvd. As well as maybe a director's cut on a cd since there was room on the second cd for more songs, I have the cd and need to upgrade the VHS tape to the dvd. ;0) I know no such luck. I guess there isn't a way to get full cuts of the songs without taking a player to a showing, recording the songs and hopeing no one see me. ;0)

From what I can recall, The Pekes and Pollicles got cut out of the Broadway production during previews. I'm not sure about the London version. Only the Australian recording has it (out of all the English recordings).

Awful Battle was in the Broadway production. It was the US tours that cut it, as well as shortening Mungojerrie and Rumpleteazer.

Many productions shorten Bustopher's solo. The post-London-closing touring versions in Europe cut the beginning of the Beatles' tattoo (like the film does), and use the cut to Macavity that was done in London and the film. The current UK tour also cuts sections of the Jellicle Ball.

Really?! For the entire BW run? Huh. I wonder if it's included in the scripts of the community theater/school version.

Yes. The entire run. It was never cut from Broadway.

The cassette / CD re-edit of the Ball on the London Cast contains the worst cut I have ever heard by a professional sound recordist.
