I cannot find any info online as to why the original London version of the song was replaced, so I figured I'd ask here. It went from being my favorite song in the entire show to one I usually skip on the Broadway recording. :? Such a shame!

I don't know the exact reason, but I'd presume they felt it was a bit long and the show needed a different energy at that point- so when it transferred they went with the "Mistofellees Magic Show" context (later replacing that with the traditional duet).

Hmmm maybe, but I find the last verse very bouncy. I much prefer the jazzier sound, as it makes them more cunning and mischievous, like the Bonnie and Clyde of cats. I feel the current version makes them too buffoonish.

I've always liked the Mistofellees version best (mostly because of Timothy Scott), but I can see what you mean about the original. I still feel it drags just a hair- probably if they excised a verse as in the later versions it would work better.

I like the original, and I like the Australian and Video versions of the new one. How ever I don't like the Broadway.

Does anyone know if it's even legal to perform this song here in the states? I know the Japanese Shiki production still uses it.
