Post BYE BYE BIRDIE: a new film version
Playbill has announced that Adam Shankman is developing a movie musical remake of Bye Bye Birdie for Columbia Pictures. With two film versions in existence, one for the big screen and one for TV - even if they're not perfect - is this really necessary?

no its not nessesary. the origianl film preserved the stage roles of Paul Lynde and Dick Van Dyke for posterity..and the t.v. movie was well cast and true to the broadway show. so both ends have been already covered.

Hairspray lost my vote,

he`s gonna change the whole story into a really bad Tom Cruise movie.

So witch will it be, the original or turned around like the 1960s one?

I think it's unnecessary, but I'm still excited about it.

See, I'm an Adam Shankman fan, and I think he has the right attitude and style to make a remake wonderful. I'd be willing to give it a shot. Even though I love the show, having done it live a couple of times, I hate the film, EXCEPT for Dick Van Dyke and Paul Lynde...and I don't much like the TV version, except for Mama...so I'm willing to see another.
