I'm not exactly sure about which elements you changed your mind; I'd guess that it at least has largely to do with the set and related design elements. As far as the plot is concerned, saying that it's poor "in general" means very little unless you're taking a swipe at the whole
Tarzan franchise, going all the way back to the original novel from 1912. Certainly, there are elements of the story as it's told in the musical that don't work as well as they could/should, but that's not quite the same thing.
I'd wager that you didn't listen to them particularly closely then. There is a fair amount of variation in the score.
Probably just as well, because to call the show a
complete failure is to look at it very superficially, perhaps not even at all. There are elements of the show that work and elements that don't, both dramatically and theatrically, and it is ultimately a show of middling accomplishment.
