Your personal 'anthems' or songs that...

...you otherwise think summarise your life, personality or current situation. Can be popular or theatrical.

In my case, I'd say the following:

Message in a Bottle - The Police : Feeling of isolation and detachment.
Nowhere Man - The Beatles: Same as above.
Help! - The Beatles : In my more anxious and less indiffferent moods arising from established issue.
Tower of Babel - Elton John : My awkward and frequently sarcastic/bitter/exasperated state of being seemingly the only 'clean' or 'morally straight' individual in a community riddled with hedonism, betrayal and corruption.
Drunk by Myself - Nas : For now the sole hip-hop song on here, which I relate to more because of the conveyed resentful sentiment of being sold out and exploited by those I trusted out of my naive idealism and wishing to seperate myself from the rest of the world as a result than actually being intoxicated.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid mine is still "Someone Else's Story" from Chess. Maybe not so much as it was 8 months ago, when I had first left my husband of 9 years (for many of the same reasons outlined in the song) and wasn't quite sure if the separation would be temporary or permanent. But I still do consider it to be my "theme song", and probably will until I can get this whole messy divorce thing finalized and actually be able to really move on with my life.

Confused Crying or Very sad
aworthyboyishe

Lovedrunk - Boys Like Girls : I have an ex-fiance. Its been a messy breakup. Spanning over 3 months. X_X

Always True To You (In My Fashion) - Kiss Me Kate: I have been known to have my fun, but I'm always devoted.

There Are Worse Things I Could Do - Grease: I'm very uptight about showing my emotions, especially in front of people.
Mumsytype

I feel the pain, Lisa... been there, done that, lost out, but eventually gained freedom and self-respect again.

Life? Carol King's Tapestry.
Personality? Killer Queen, perhaps... heehee!
Current situation? Hmmm... Carly Simon's 'Haven't got time for the pain'.

Yeah, that'd do for starters.
Yakko

Music of the Night- Phantom of the Opera: For me I've always wanted people to join me in my love music

The Grand Finale-Edward Scissorhands-it brings me a feeling of loneness but something uplifting will come to me one day.

Lesson #8- Sunday in the Park With George: Right now I have a hard time connecting with things right now...

I walked into my music history class one day last year while the professor was testing the day's music files to make sure they worked. As soon as I set foot in the room, "Flight of the Valkyries" started playing. It became my theme song from that moment on. Laughing

YES!!!! It is pure brilliance! I also like her "How to build your own Gilbert & Sullivan operetta" sketch.

I actually have not seen that one!

My happy song-I Know, You Know by The Friendly Indians: its insanely upbeat, and the verse "I'm not inclined to resign to maturity" simply describes me
My love song- My White Knight from The Music Man: "Why couldn't there be, just once, somebody being in love with me" says it all no?
Alexia Dark

Not For The Life of Me from Thoroughly Modern Millie - I am ready to pursue my dreams, things are going well, and I am looking forward to what the future holds in store.
bare24601!

Lately, it's been So Far Away by Carole King, and Homeward Bound by Simon & Garfunkel because I moved away from my family and the place I have lived all my life and I've been feeling really homesick.
In general, I'm Gonna Fly by Sydney Forest.
=)
Jekkienumber24601

How Will I Know (Fly) from Rudolf: Last Kiss
~GertrudeMcFuzz~

I have quite a random list of anthems.

In General:

"So Much Better" from Legally Blonde, for those few times when I achieve something everyone thought I couldn't.

"Melody" by Kate Earl- a simple song, but conveys in a basic way how I feel about music.

"Music and the Mirror" from A Chorus Line- I don't dance. Not at all. But for some reason, when I sing this song it makes me feel every ounce of love I have for musical theatre.

"Freedom" by Kerrigan and Lowdermilk- It represents my wish to just go off to New York and live my dream, even though I know I'll be at college for the next few years. When I sing this, I can believe for a little while that I'm totally free.

"On My Way" from Violet- Starting college, having all of these opportunities to succeed.

Right at this moment:

"Home" by Michael Buble- My parents are actually here right now for parents' weekend, but most of the time, I feel this way at college.

"Nothing" from A Chorus Line- I'm an MT singer in a school full of opera singers, and right now, this is how I feel a lot of the time.
SomeoneLikeYou

"Belle" from BatB. This is how other people see me.

"Being Alive" from Company. This is basically how I feel about relationships. I even picture all my friends' words interjecting into the song just as Bobby's friends do in the show.

"Morning Glow," which is a song by Mayuko Aoki and featured on the soundtrack of Final Fantasy X-2. I consider this to be my instrumental theme, even though it has words in Japanese. You can listen to it here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WBejRS6jwWg
Roger's Chica

"You Can Make Them Like You" by the Hold Steady. Check it.

And probably "Sing" from A Chorus Line. It makes me sigh and angrily shake my fist and feel resigned all at once.
UniquePerspective

Erin...where the hell have you been?

That's all.
SmallTownIngenue

Right now: "How to Return Home"-Kerrigan Lowdermilk

Other songs that have struck some ressonance with me:
"Everything Else"-Next to Normal
"So Much Better"-Legally Blonde
"Hopelessly Devoted to You"-Grease
"Breakaway"-Kelly Clarkson

Just a lot of build of being fed up with everything.
hyperactress23

Electricity from Billy Elliot - I'm a sucky dancer, but it describes how I feel about theatre and singing.
Flight by Sutton Foster and Megan McGinnis - I really feel that I am suffocating (both by rules placed on me by others and by my own personal fears) and just want to get out and fly.

Currently:
Never Alone by Barlow Girl - Anyone who isn't really into their faith won't get this. But basically, it's been awhile since I've really felt close to God. And I just have to trust that He's there.

There's more that I can't think of for some reason...
Xxmcfly85xX

Currently:

Boats and Birds - Gregory and the Hawke - Was a favourite of a friend that I recently lost. The lyric 'just leave me your stardust to remember you by' sums it up.

Traumerei (Dreaming) - Robert Schumann - I know it isnt popular or musical, but I just learnt how to play this piece, and it brings up all those feelings of being young, and dreaming of my future.

Others:

I Wanna Grow Old With You - Adam Sandler
Extrodinary - Mandy Moore
Barenaked - Jennifer Love Hewitt

Oh you know. Being in Hamlet, graduating university, moving to Kingston, going to Queen's University for post-grad: that old chestnut Razz

However, now that I've moved across the country and spend all day socializing, there are definitely a couple of nights a week where I just want to veg out in my bedroom and NOT talk to my roommate, so I am baaaaaack.

Flight is not by Sutton Foster. She adapted it into a duet. It's orignally a guy song and I'm still looking for sheet music...anyone?
wtfchuck

For me it's gotta be I wanna make magic/Think of Meryl Streep from Fame. I know it's cliche but i really connect to those songs.

And in a way, Dancing on the Sidewalk aswell.
sylvesterm11

ALWAYS Belle (Reprise) from Beauty and the Beast.

"And for once, it might be grand to have someone understand... I want so much more than they've got planned." Confused
idTAPthat89

Part Of Your World (Reprise) (although I wish I could say "Poor Unfortunate Souls"...my favorite!) "I don't know when, I don't know how, but I know something's starting right now..."

and..

In some ways, Portrait Of A Girl from Bare.

I know there are several more..I'll have to come back to this.

I figured it wasn't by her. That's just the only one I've heard. I've tried to look up the original singer, but haven't had any luck.
Beagle On Stage

Fields of Gold by Sting (NEVER Eva Cassidy's knock-off!) became my theme song years ago. It goes with my outlook on life. Certain points of it suggest my current situation, and the parts that deal with states of life I'm not old enough for seem to reflect what is most probable for my future.

I quit my job this last week because I was being taken advantage of, and Je ne Veux Pas Travailler has been in and out of my head since then. It seems to match up pretty well... "Je ne veux pas travailler... et puis, je fume." Biographical.

It's All the Same from Man of la Mancha courses through my veins. It isn't all roses, but what I give, I choose to give.
emmy05

I have a few:

I think my main one is Make Your Own Party by Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich. It's about creating your own happiness.

The other is A Way Back to Then from [title of show]. I totally relate to that song even though I'm not an actress. It feels more me than any other song I've heard.

I love Positive and So Much Better from Legally Blonde.

Then there are certain phrase from songs that i relate to.
A chorus line - Who Am I Anyway? Am I my resume?
I'll sing that over and over while I'm questioning myself or job searching. [/b]
kozafluitmusique

Right now, "Kalla Kalla" is my reverse song. It's part of Hebrew Love Songs. I often imagine my crush singing it so Razz

But also "A Change of Me" is really prominent because I feel like I've grown in confidence in some ways the past two years.

Amongst others.
Disney-Bway27

Cliche as hell but...
"The Impossible Dream."

Mr. Green
WickedToo

No Boundaries - Kris Allen : It always reminds me to be all that I can be and let nothing get in my way.

Don't Stop Believin' (Glee Version) : This song makes me feel good and helps me to dream my dreams and be me.

Stars - Les Miserables : I love this song because of all the emotion in it and just the overall message of it. My friend also sang it for a show choir concert. I don't know how the storyline of Les Miserables fits with this song but I love it.

Defying Gravity - Wicked : To not let anyone get me down or get in my way.

For Good - Wicked : It makes me reflect on all of the people who have made me who I am today.

I Have Confidence - The Sound of Music : I can do whatever I put my mind to and even outshine the Captain in my The Sound of Music production!
