Depends...favorite song to play is undoubtedly Henry Ford, it was lots of fun (lol sorry, I've never seen the show in my life, but I know the music inside and out...I was a pit musician for the show this past summer) and we all got really into it. Journey On is my favorite song overall...more to listen to, because it was kinda meh to play, but omg I looove that song anyway.
overall...much listening love for: Journey On, He Wanted to Say, New Music
much playing love for: Henry Ford, What Kind of Woman ('cause...how 'bout that oboe solo at the end, right guys? *looks around* *crickets* well...there is one...and it's cool...), Wheels of a Dream

Gah, they're all amazing. I just recently discovered Ragtime, and I can't stop listening to it. My favorite(s) are, let's see
Journey On's the best, with Your Daddy's Son close behind. But the Prologue, Make Them Hear You, Til We Reach That Day, and Henry Ford are also all amazing.

"Make Them Hear You" makes me shiver and tear up almost every time I hear it. Something about it is just so powerful. I also adore "Gliding" because of the strong love Tateh (sp?) has for his daughter... It's just so lovely. Makes me think of my dad, who commutes weekly from Kentucky (we live near Cleveland, OH) just to support my family. Naturally a different story, but I guess I'm just a Daddy's girl. "Back to Before" is another favorite, and "Your Daddy's Son"... Mmm I just love practically all the music in Ragtime, I suppose. Lol.

The Night That Goldman Spoke at Union Square. It has such a great melody, and everytime I take the subway and go through Union Square, it's stuck in my head for the rest of the day. I love that number!

Yeah Ragtime songs are going to haunt me FOREVER...even worse since I know the music perfectly but don't know the words. The other day I had to look something up for school and it was a website based out of Lawrence, Massachusetts and I got that song stuck in my head...get these songs in my head every day even though the show ended back in July. A word to the wise, never play in the pit orchestra. Being in the show, you get the songs out of your head eventually. Pit? Never...ever...ever...*dies*
I got all teary when we played the exit music in the final show. It was just so emotional and we were all into it, and even though the kids were goggling at us from the top it was still so intense. *dreamy sigh*

This whole show is amazing and always invokes a major emotional upheaval for me. I love every single song. But if I had to chose one, it would be "Til We Reach That Day," since it made me cry my eyes out the first time I heard it.
"New Music" and "Back to Before" are close seconds, though.

I have to choose? If I had to pick just one, it would be the Prologue. It's just incredible, one of the greatest opening numbers of all time.
