Your favorite Meg!

Dear PotO Fans,

Which Meg is your favorite Meg, and why is she your favorite Meg?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Kara Klein. She was very cute and sweet in the role. Not spectacular, but the other two I've seen were terrible and made her better in comparison.

Lindsey Wise, the current London Meg, is fantastic.

She plays the role as a cheeky, sulky brat and is a joy to watch. The other Megs I've seen have all been very sweet and well behaved, which is nice, but I prefer Lindsey's interpretation.

Hayley Driscoll, UK: She had a very good singing voice, was a lovely dancer and her looks is exactly how I envision Meg (though maybe a bit too beautiful.... hehe). I also loved her interpretation. PICTURE: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/reiseaudun/designlair/degasrehuk.jpg

Anna Grönros, Denmark: A very light, strong voice and a lovely dancer as well. She and Christine always came off as believeable best friends, and she seemed so concerned about her good friend. I loved her in the role. PICTURE: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/reiseaudun/designlair/degasrehdm.jpg

Brianne Kelly Morgan, Las Vegas: Probably the most pleasant voice I've ever heard in a US Meg, and an interesting portrayal. Plus a top-notch dancer. Reminds me a bit of Janet Devenish. PICTURE: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v323/reiseaudun/designilmuto/megmaidvegas.jpg

Janet Devenish, original Meg: granted I've never seen her on stage, I still love the little I've seen and heard. She more or less shaped my envisions of the role. PICTURE:

In general I think West End has had a very fine line of Megs. I don't think i've ever seen one there I've disliked, found below par or thought was wrong for the role. I haven't seen POTO live in the US, but there are many of the Megs that I dislike the voice of. So sharp-voiced...

I also tend to dislike the Japanese Megs. It sounds like they're intentionally trying to sound like annoying 12 year old giggly school girls. The first Japanese cast CD has a lovely Meg, but those I've heard after 1990 sometime has had this... annoying quality.

Most Megs have been awful. Jennifer Ellison was decent.

Meg is a stupid bit part..thats like asking who your favorite George the bartender is in My Fair Lady!

She might be a "bit part" but she gets the cool ending.

How many Megs have you seen on stage? Eh? And who?

For whatever it's worth, Jennifer Ellison's Meg left me unimpressed. Not because she is bad - she is a really talented dancer, and has a nice voice. Her Roxie portrayal in "Chicago" prooved that. But instead of showcasting her excellent classical ballet skills in the movie, they cut the dancing down to a minimum. Why?? And granted the role is a supporting one, I think it was underdeveloped in the movie, moreso than on stage. Maybe I expected too much of Ellison... I like that she looked a lot like her mother, Madame Giry, though.

She is hardly a stupid bit part. When I saw it on stage she was always there. She was observing a lot of what happened and if you look at what happens to the character at the end, you see her being strong and independent. She leads the others to the Phantom's lair and actively searches out the trouble. She's the best character.

Nah, she's basically a stupid bit part.

Stupid Vs. Interesting...

Dear PotO Fans,

I don't know much about Meg's role in "Phantom", because I've only seen the movie version of the musical. I'd love to see the musical live, so that I could fairly deduce weather or not the role of Meg is that fantastic.

I also think that someone who claims that a certain role is "stupid" is being a slight bit (pardon the pun...LOL!) presumptuous.

Let's pretend that the character of Meg is herewith removed from the musical. Now, I ask those of you who said that the role was "stupid" to explain why, and how, the musical's storyline will be so much better without Meg. I'm honestly curious to know what the plotline will read as, now that Meg isn't in the script anymore.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Meg

Meg introduces "Angel of Music".. hehe

Meg is a rather small, thankless, overlooked role.. but nevertheless is cute and sorta speaks for the corps de ballet. It's nice to see a little friend to Christine. I always actually liked the part of Meg. I prefer Janet Devennish (sp.?) from the OLC, she is the original Smile Oh, btw I am new to the board and want to say hello! Very Happy

Thanks!!
