Your favorite costumes?

I've noticed there have been a few threads about absolutely terrible costumes, so here is a thread to reminsce about your favorite costumes from shows you've been in!

Here are a few of mine.

My dress for Act II opening in Into the Woods as Cinderella. You can't see the whole thing, but I LOVED the color, and the headdress was so sparkly and princess-y, it was just awesome. I only wore it for a very brief time though. Crying or Very sad (I'm on the right, Rapunzel is on the left and she had a beautiful costume too).

And as Kate in Pirates of Penzance. Although I didn't get Mabel, I think I got the prettier costume. Wink Wasn't a fan of the hat though. I originally had an awesome pink lacy one, but the scatter-brained costume ladies lost it. So I got stuck with this rodeo princess one. Hmm.

As a whore in Les Mis. I was double cast as Fantine, so I alternated every other night and since we had a small ensemble, I did a variety of roles on my off-night as Fantine. I LOVED this costume, and the hairdresser gave me some crazy hair-dos. It didn't like to stay up though, and my nude-colored bustier was exposed sometimes, but it fit the character. Very Happy

And an oldie from my middle school production of Robin Hood in the 9th grade. I was Maid Marian. I also had another beautiful dress my grandma made me, but the green dress just fit the role/show so well, although it was extremely tiny because it was made for ballet dancers with no boobs. I ended up being in a lot of shows with my Robin Hood, although we hated each other at the time (note the lack of passion in our gazing stares), we became great friends. He was the Baker in my production of Into the Woods and the Sergeant in Pirates of Penzance and is now playing Lumiere in my former high school's production of Beauty and the Beast. He's awesome.

So those are my favorites! Share yours! It's a fun way to remember some of your fondest show memories. Smile

God, I can't get over how awesome you look. My only favorite costume I have so far is the French solider costume I wore the first time I did Les Miz.

Maggie, you look *incredible* in costume, it's as though you're oozing pure awesomeness. Smile I have no photos of myself in any sort of role on my PC (unless my business suit counts as a costume? Razz )....I suppose now that I have a week off college, I could take a couple of shots of myself wearing the day and eveningwear suits I used for Anything Goes?
sweetsoprano

Maggie, all your costumes are so beautiful! You're stunning!

These are some of my favorites:

Marzipan in the Nutcracker (3 years ago). This tutu was handmade and built for me, and for the two others in the variation...so exciting! Of course other's are using in that company's Nutcracker now, but still!

Oklahoma (1 year ago)
It's such a simple costume but I ADORED it!

Aida - My Strongest Suit (May)
LOVED this negligee!

Arabian in The Nutcracker (2 years ago) - This company has amazing costumes!

LOL, I'll post it over there right now!

I've never really disliked a costume, but here are my favs. I'm including costume pieces I like, even if I wasn't crazy about the entire costume.

I really just loved this hat:

I liked my hair and hat, not necessarily the entire costume:

Again, I like the hat, and the fur:

I liked these costumes in their entirety:

And I like this costume because it was so extremely functional and appropriate, and I had to put it together myself so there was nothing uncomfortable. And I like my hair snood.

Aww thanks Meg! You look gorgeous as well! I LOVE the tutu. Makes me wish I stayed in ballet, because I ADORE all tutus, hehe. Smile

And Laurel, I love your hat in the first picture. It's awesome.
lilmissbroadway

Warning pictures are big! Oh, I'll probably end up posting after G&D because our costumes and wigs are fan-freakin-tastic!

Prom dress from Grease! So much love!

Wizard of Oz when I was 10. I wore a flower pot hat in the show, but for some reason I'm not wearing it in this picture...

This was Aladdin so I was 12. I loved this thing with a passion.

Oh High School Musical, how I unexpectedly loved you so....
fjays

Yay! Nostalgia!

I loved this dress, I wore it in Oliver when I played the Milkmaid and was in chorus.. I had a different, uglier dress for my Charlotte scene Laughing

When I was playing a Russian Femme Fatale for a school ensemble performance.. A sexy little black dress.. Wink

As a dancer in Anything Goes last year, my sailor costume was adorabubble! I loved wearing it Smile

I did a solo performance on Peter Allen last year.. Needless to say, I loved this shirt!! Hahahahaha

^ Looking fab as always, Fi. Wink I do rather like the black dress. Mr. Green
nabla

I loved my Ascot costume, costume wise that whole scene was pretty epic... pity the set was so bad

^far left

Also I could never forget the white satin sailor suit i had to tap dance in in Anything Goes Razz
Beagle On Stage

Matthias in the Redwall operetta was a fun costume. Every exposed inch of skin was covered in fur. (I had better fur than the other mice 'cuz I was the mother effing lead. Twisted Evil) I think this picture is from act one, but I had to be wired underneath for flight for all of act two, because I literally never left the stage... and that harness starts to chafe your junk after a while. The person next to me in this picture is the older lady who played Constance Badger. Her costume was even more restrictive than mine, and she had a lot less fun wearing it, partly due to the lack of peripheral vision, and partly because she turned out to be allergic to her fur. d'oh!

LadyOfTheLake

(Sorry there's so many of them!)

Sandy in Grease; Summer 2009

Ballgown from Cinderella; Summer 2009

Grace Farrell in Annie; Spring 2009

Priscilla Daniels in Miracle on 35th Street; Winter 2008

Mungojerrie in Cats; Summer 2008

Brigantine

Favorite dress ever:

this dress was fun, I got to wear it in "the Little Foxes" as Birdie, and then a few years later wear it as Nola in Show Boat. someone made it for me for Little foxes so with a corset it fit me perfectly! It was very poofy during Little Foxes but wasn't too bad during Show Boat.

there was a skirt that I made for Little foxes that I also wore in Show Boat but I don't have a good picture of it. Oh, and I wore it in Will Rogers Follies too. I wish I could have stolen it from the theater when we moved. I guess I can make another one, but it was the first real costume piece I made, I was so proud of myself! Smile

And this dress that was made for me for Show Boat was pretty cool too. and since I paid for it I kept it! Smile please ignore my icky face in this and just look at the dress, LOL
sweetsoprano

Brig, I LOVE LOVE LOVE that first dress!
P.S - You are gorgeous!

Wait, why were you Mungojerrie? He's a male character, and a vocal solo to boot. Not good having females in male roles.
Beagle On Stage

When everyone is a cat, you can be a little more flexible. Besides, how many men's men are in most productions of... Cats?

I don't even understand that question.

Who are you to say I shouldn't had the role? I could sing it, I could dance it; I got great reviews. Thanks for being so judgemental Rolling Eyes

Those were pretty nice. Rented for an amdram production of Pirates.

Then of course there's the home-grown fan costumes:-

Volta from Starlight Express

A bit more Starlight Expressery

Just messing around with a half-made Glinda

12th May 2002 - closing of Cats in London. The fans in Covent Garden Piazza.
LadyOfTheLake

Wow, Mumsy; what lovely costumes! I especially like the Starlight Express ones.

Gertrude McFuzz in Seussical, summer '07:

Smile
christinadaae

Glinda- The Wiz- this was only dress rehearsal, so I didn't have on the long gloves, the tiara, or the big Marie-Antoinette-y wig. Also, when I pick up my dress, I have blue and white stripes stocking on. Fabulous.

Wedding Dress from Les Mis- actual vintage lace with this huge bustle that always made me feel hot.

Maureen- DUH.

Thanks! My daughters made them - apart from the rented Pirates frocks - they're both really clever costumers.
wicked_boy

Not the most exotic costumes, but the most comfortable to wear. (We all know how itchy / hard to move in some can be...)

Boogie Nights (Summer 0Cool... My opening costume.

Lollypop Kid in The Wizard of Oz, Christmas - New Year 05 / 06.

I've got so many more favourite costumes (Michael - Peter Pan, "Boy" - Oliver!, Horatio - Hamlet etc) but they're all copyrighted. . . The ones above are no where near as good!

I never said that, did I. I asked why they cast a female. Was it a weird director decision, or was it simply as lack of male talent?

(Although, please tell me that's not a female Munkustrap.)

I get Annaleigh Ashford and Kate Winslet's love child A LOT.
NoOneMournsTheWicked

I've mostly done my own costumes, but I think I've put together some pretty nice costumes.

My favourite West Side Story costume- it was a skirt and peasant top from the Gap and some leftover decorator's ribbon from the holidays. I re-wore the top in Act II with a different skirt.

I provided my coat for The Diary of Anne Frank, but otherwise, I was actually costumed, for once.

My first Act I dress:

My Hanukkah dress. It was so cute and it had a sailor collar and everything:

Act II costume. Aesthetically not my favourite, but it was just perfect:

Many of the guys that auditioned weren't up to par. So we were put in.

(From left to right) Mungojerrie, Jennyanydots, Munkustrap, Demeter, Grizabella (minus the coat).
Mungojerrie_rt

Which is sad since Mungojerrie can be mostly spoke sung. Not even one good baritenor for Munkustrap? A female wouldn't have the gravity of voice needed.
