You're A Good Man, Charlie BrownI am considering purchasing the Broadway revival recording of "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown." I don't know much about the show, so I am looking to all of you for advice. Would this be a recording that I would want to spend my money on? Is it worth owning and listening to? Your advice is greatly appreciated! |

It's a good recording, but personally, I think there are more worthwhile recordings out there to spend your money on. If you would like ideas, you can PM me.

If you have AIM just message me and lonewanderer13 and um...I might be able to help you.

I say yes. It's only $9.99 off iTunes.

Thanks for the replies! I still would like more opinions, so don't hesitate to reply! |

Personally, I hated it so much it's not even funny. The actors try to sound like children. Oh, they do. Don't worry about that. But they sound like horrible children. It's not a worthwhile listen. If you want to die quickly, just put the CD into your stereo and listen for two and a half minutes. You'll be dead before you can say, "You suck, Charlie Brown."

I like the CD but it really isn't something I think to listen to. It sort of comes up on my iTunes. I wouldn't buy it, I'd find a friend with it and burn it or something.

I say don't buy it, but IM me.

Yeah... I bought the CD and wasnt proud with my choice. There are very few songs that are great or even good in that show. So I hope that helps with your descision.

All of this does help! I don't think I'm going to buy it anymore.
ANd I added you to my buddy list LoneWanderer. |

It's interesting how so far almost all of the comments have been negative- and yet the poll is currently 11 for yes, and 0 for no.
I personally love the cd, it's very enjoyable to listen too and some of the songs are extremely funny. |

I think it's worth your money. True, there probably are better shows, but since I don't know what your current musical collection looks like, I probably can't make the judgement as to which one you should buy. It is a very cute musical, and, even though it can get old after a while (but what musical doesn't? . . . that was rhetorical people), it's funny and catchy.
Just one thing that I don't like about it, and I'm not looking for a discussion/arguement, but I can't stand Kristen Chenoweth. As long as you can get past the fingernails on a chalkboard, then go for it! |

I really love this recording. Obviously many don't, I suppose it depends on personal taste. I think it's really fun though! It's such a fun, energetic show and I reckon it's great to listen to.

Just the idea of turning Charlie Brown into a musical makes me sick...
And then I heard it. Ouch. |

Wow, I'm really surprised to see that so many people dislike this show. It's not my favorite, but I think it's very cute and definitely enjoyable. Sure, there are some songs that I always skip over, but for the most part I really like it--and "My New Philosophy" is always worth a listen. Without that song, what would girls sing to audition for Little Sally in Urinetown? Lol, jk. But I guess I DO really like this show... I would certainly recommend it, especially if you're a KC fan. It's funny and sort of cool to hear her voice before Wicked came along. Though there are probably other shows that would be more worthy of you spending your money, I think you should still get it somehow, if you can. |

I love the show, but I voted no because I love the OBC, not the revival.

I am one of the few who actually knew who Kristen Chenoweth was before Wicked, due to my love for Charlie Brown. My mom introduced me to it when I was a little girl, so I'd say its great to play to children.
And it's so much fun to be a part of. (Christina was Sally.) Christina |

Me too! And then when Wicked got so big, the first time I listened to it I kept thinking "this woman sounds like Sally..." Haha. Personally, I find her less annoying on the YAGMCB CD. But I was a fan of RENT before YAGMCB, so naturally the first time I listened to it I thought "this sounds like Mark!" Haha, I'm a nerd.
Eh, I dunno. The OBC is great for sure, but I love all the music that was added to the revival. Honestly, what's YAGMCB without "My New Philosophy?" And I think the extra parts added to the song "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown" make the song so much better. But, y'know, to each his or her own. |

I, too, got to know Kristen Chenowith with the revival "YAGMCB" cast recording before listening to "Wicked". I also agree that the recording as a whole is made by the two new songs "My New Philosophy" and "Beethoven Day", so I would probably like the revival cast over the original.
The major let down (for me) in this is Ilana Levine as Lucy. Her voice grinds at my ears, but only because she is singing as a child! It's very whimsical but I enjoy it. If you wanted a sneak peak of the music, Kristen's performance at the Tonys can be seen here: Clicky! |

not one of my favourites but its okay

I've never heard the original but I think the revival is hilarious. At first I hated and even skipped the songs with Lucy but eventually you get use to it and you start to laugh.

frankly, i enjoy the revival recording. the "updated" sound gives it a bit more "oomph," shall we say, makes it a bit louder, which YAGMCB is deserving of. actors weren't really spectacular per se, but i loved, LOVED kristin chenoweth and roger bart as sally and snoopy, respectively, and stanley wayne mathis' voice is amazing. ilana levine also delivers a well developed character in playing lucy. but that's just my opinion; i'm probably rambling here...
well, all in all, yes, the revival was a bit on the "fluffy" side compared to its OBC counter part, but hey...it's charlie brown...in 1999....and it's a revival. what'd you expect? |

oh my gosh I love the revival. except for Ilana Levine's voice. AHH! but you can tell she actually DOES have a good voice when she sings in Happiness. |
