You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown

i was just in this show...does anyone else absolutely love it?
Holly

I've seen it once and thought it was pretty cute. I like the music Smile
katieanne

i used to like it but i've done it too many times to be excited by it anymore.
Sister Robert Anne

I love it, and it's not performed in the UK as much as it is in the States. According to the Broadwayworld boards it's going to be revived for a tour next year, so I'm very much looking forward to that Very Happy

There is no Kiss of the Spider Woman forum...this is "Other Shows."
rockyrocks666

I only just got the cast recording of this show yesterday and so far im absolutly loving it!!!
Luc

I hate the Off-Broadway recording. It is just horrendous. I actually cringed a couple of times.

I bet any money that I could teach grade ones to sing better than them.
AND write better music.

That's just me, though.
bwaybrunette21

Love love love love love it! I was Sally too! Cute part, hands down my favorite role in the show, besides Linus who I think is adorable too, but I am biased.
the_musical_youth

Yep, did it about 2 months ago. I am addicted.
Luc

You're a good man, Charlie Brown, but your show just sucks.

Sorry, I couldn't help it. Carry on! Wink
glh199

Pictures please!

Hi,
I just got asked to costume charlie Brown next year - love the soundtrack, but I can't find pictures of the broadway versions, and don't like most of the others I've found.
Could you all post pictures of your versions of the show?
Thanks everyone! Looking forward to this show Very Happy
Baker

You hardly need pictures, do you? Just look at the comics...

AWESOME! I saw that you wanted to play Adelaide...she's a lot like Sally-if you pulled her off I'm sure you'd be an excellent Adelaide!

I love Linus too...my favorite line...

ah, but how does one get the girls skirts to stick out the correct amount, in the correct place, without making them look ridiculous? true, the comics tell you what they style/colour each character needs to wear, but getting the balance between comic book and real life is tricky!
Gemma
Baker

Well, for the boys it's easy.

I'm pretty sure that they didn't have the girl's dresses stick out... they just fell like any other normal dress.

What I admire about the original off-broadway recording is its simplicity. Honestly, Ep-Griz-Reno, you do not need a big-budget production. If you do, you're doing it wrong. What exactly is it that's eating up your budget?

Well we're trying to put it on in our theatre group, but currently all of their funds are going to 12th night-the other show their working on....and I TOTALLY agree-I mean, there doesn't even really NEED to be a set...but our coordinator asked me and two of my friends to get 1000 dollars together (for rights...i guess?)...soooo yeah haha...and not one of us has a job...i just applied for a couple...but I'm also in 12th night AND once upon a mattressssssssssssssss......eeeeekkkkk =/

Why do you use so many letters and punctuation marks and stuff? It's kind of annoying...

I, too, think it's annoying that you keep picking on me. This is just the way I am...I was always taught to be that way.....no offense, but I'm not changing myself NOR my punctuation for you?!@#$%$%&$%@!@#

...ughhhhh why does everyone always try and start stuff???

I come on here for fun and to get feedback and to give advice as best as I can and everyone always has something bad to say to me.

I'm not a mean person, and I'm not a bad person.

Now forgive this lament, but it was long overdue because there are quit a few smug people on this site who feel they can say whatever they want whenever they want nomatter how rude it is.

Aha! It was on the tip of my tongue! I love that show!
Monsieur D'Arque

The Snoopy i had in my second production of Charlie Brown (I was Linus that time) was hysterical! He was played very much like a dog that had spent too much time in front of the TV and had developed a very overactive fantasy life. During any of his monologues, he would lapse into accents or impressions, as would be relatively appropriate. During the "Bleached Puppy Bones" monologue he slowly metamorphosed from Snoopy into Christopher Walken, which cracked the audience up. Some people in the cast (we had an ensemble) were not charmed by this, but overall it was agreed that Snoopy is the only character who is really able to break the fourth wall and have "gags."

That sounds TO DIE for!!! I would have LOVED to see that!!!

Oh man, i LOVE YAGMCB. I love the revival. I think it was alot better than the original. Not that i saw either of them on Broadway, but based on the additional songs in the new one, plus i love the cast of the new one. And the recordings are better in the new one. Maybe thats just me being biased thou.

But yes, I agree with everyone. Sally is my favorite. Shes one of my dream roles. And I LOVE the song 'My New Philosophy'

He did so much other stuff like that though, some of it with the help of the orchestra, which contained some friends of his. He would deliver some of his vignettes and one-liners in the style of Jerry Seinfeld doing his sitcom opener, and the facial expression was exactly Jerry! Of course, the best part was, as soon as he finished the punch line, the bassist would play a "Seinfeld" slap bass solo into the next scene.

During "Red Baron" he stole the show, performing the narration in a 1940s news announcer voice, making sound effects, even yelling in German for the Red Baron's voice. And during Suppertime, instead of the "hello home listeners" line, he would improvise, saying lines like "Hello, Southburg County Public Auditorium, how ya doin'!" Or, on the night of the show's filming, "Hello home viewers! And if you're watching this now, i just made five bucks in royalties!"

I'm so sorry you were unable to play Sally =(. It's a blast. I'm kind of surprised because YAGMCB is not an expensive show (At least I don't think so, I didn't pay for it when I was in it lol). Hopefully you'll get the opportunity someday(=

YAGMCB - my first musical love!

This was the first show that I fell in love with. I absolutely love it. It led me to Rent through Anthony. This is such a cute show. I suggested to do it for my school's May musical for the 4 years that I was in high school but we never did it. Sad
jimbothecrab

My school is doing our first musical and it just happens to be YAGMCB! I wanted to be Charlie until I read this. Now i'm not so sure, I always play the funny person, I always get the laughs so maybe i'd be a better Snoopy. Anyone have an opinion?
PinStripes

Lord, I loved this show so much! I played Lucy, which was fun, but hard, as she's got a lot to sing and I actually had to sing it.

My personal favorite character is Charlie Brown. He always gets dismissed, but my firend played him for our school and he was perfect for the role!

Whats your voice?
Snoopy is tenor, with high As written in here and there.
I think Charlie's highest is about an E.
jimbothecrab

Just got casted as Charlie and I'm super excited. Our cast should be really good, our girls are amazing pretty much born to play the parts! This is my schools first musical too. Have yet to look at the script but I love the music, all of it.

Yeah, I think so too! I remember watching this musical a few weeks ago, and Schroeder was hilarious!!! Expecially in the scenes with him and Lucy, it was so funny! You should definitely try out for him!
Skip2MyLiu33

i have never done YAGMCB before (wow, i feel left out) but i've been listening to the revival recording over and over (and over) again...and so far, i love it. really want to play lucy...what a character! love her! (also helps that it's an alto role...)

My YaGMCB story...summer after 6th grade, I was changing schools, and my new school had a theatre summer camp hosted at the school. I thought it'd be a good way to meet people before I got to the school, so I auditioned. My first musical, and I got Charlie Brown...mind you, I'm a girl. Apparently no boys auditioned (it was the summer camp's first year), so I got the part - not because of talent, but because, honestly, I looked most like a boy, and I had/have these strange idiosyncrasies I've since mastered, but were, in their words, 'boyish'.

In short, I hated The Kite because they had me alone on stage pretending to see the kite in the audience and I had no idea what I was doing and constantly messed up. I called Peppermint Patty 'Sally', ran into a cardboard tree, and got every dance step I was given wrong.

It was certainly a memorable introduction to theatre!

I'm a girl too, but I've always kind of wanted to be Charlie Brown. so, even if you got the part by default... I consider you lucky! Very Happy
I Love Lockstock

I beat out a lot of upperclassmen for Sally my freshman year. Tons of fun! She was great!
happyguava

I am trying to pressure our director at school to do this show next year (they are already looking at shows!) - she loves the cast recording, so I'm discretely (perhaps) trying to get her to consider it. I'm assuming you can get rights in Australia but I could be wrong. I want to play Lucy or Sally - either of them would be great roles. Actually I would play any of the characters.
