I dunno about you but it looks to me like munkustrap might've gotten zapped by Macavity or Misto there...If I could I would rent one...maybe not XD... but I think it's a lot more special to just make your own....for experience and..hygene...but still...its interesting...I didn't read the entire thing..so hahahaaaa...I'll go away now...those costumes look a bit funky O~o

Many of the theaters who have done the show rent out their costumes once they close. I'm pretty sure Smithtown, in Long Island, will be, and they actually had some really nice costumes.

Yeeeahh...that's one of a couple sets of costumes that's making the regional rounds. I think that was actually the set the Virginia Musical Theatre used in their show. Not particuarlly nice costumes since they're a hodge podge of mixed fabric in the unitards, washed out and muddy colours, rips and tears all over the place and they have a problem of not sending all the costumes when they're needed (our very tall Skimbleshanks had to use a Pouncival costume that was obviously two sizes too small.

To be really blunt, almost every fan costume I've seen was astheticly better.

I'll agree with you there. There isn't one on that stage that I really love. The wigs are all so droopy, and there isn't enough texture on the uni's to make them stand out. Plus who made those awful warmers? Don't know...to me, it looks like someone cut a lot of corners! Confused

Albeit a very furry looking one. Wink I rather like this Old Deuteronomy, actually. I have a feeling I said so, too, when the pictures from whatever regional used the cossies went around. As for the others.... I don't mind their unitards, they seem to have some really gorgeous, smooth colour gradients, but I'm agreeing with Lady Jemima, they could definitely stand to have some texture on top. Still, would make a gorgeous base....

They've got an... interesting... selection of costumes for other musicals too. They're good basic costumes if you're short a seamstress... but gneh... but some of them you'd be better off digging through a thrift store, because thats what some of them look like... Its always better when you make your own costumes though....

Interesting?! Most of those are terrible... the Munkustrap offended me greatly.. if you cant do Cats properly then dont do it at all!!! Laughing Ok a slight over-reaction, they're ok.. not brilliant... just OK... maybe a little South of OK.
Drumdraper

Yeah, they would be good for bases, but if I got ahold of them I repaint , gray out some of Old D's black, and redo the boofy wigs. I need to think of a good metaphor for what the wigs remind me of.

They look like dandelion heads (the wigs). They're all just so big... O_O... bad 80s hair to the max...

A lot of regionals rent costumes in order to make the show affordable. If they had to factor in making costumes - which would only be used for a short run - ticket prices would have to be higher or the show would wind up being cost prohibitive. When Virginia Musical Theater announced they were doing CATS, I e-mailed them and asked about helping with costumes. And while they didn't need anyone to make them, I was hired to take care of them.

Virginia Musical Theater didn't use this set of costumes, so I can't speak for them, but I can speak for the ones we did get.

Yes, they smell. The unitards were washed and Fabreezed before they even started rehersals in them, but there was still plenty of dancer funk before they got on stage. They were of mixed fabric types and were showing their age in knees, crotches and in the fluffies that were coming off.

wow...kinda gross...0~0

Yeah, apparently you haven't smelled anything until you've smelled Dancer Funk Wink

XD I'll take your word for it.

Well like most people said the costumes are so-so. Except for the Old D, he's cute! The piece I like least are the wigs. The unis are ok, may be they could get more texture like LJ said, especially with the shoulder fluffies.

Other than that I'd like to point out that their stage is really great!

Ohhh and Idiosylh: EWWWWWWW! Smelly lycra suits... O.o
Idiosylph

That's the weird thing, a lot of these sets are great! These mass rental costume sets look shabby compared to them.

And yes, they do stink.
