Yay! I'm Rapunzel!!!

I just got cast as Rapunzel in ItW!!!! I'm SUPER excited! This will be my second time doing the show (I was Snow White several years ago) I am ecstatic!! I found out we'll be including Our Little World! Woo!

Any tips from past Rapunzelites?

CONGRATS! Not only is Rapunzel an incredible role, but if you play her well, she can really steal the show. There are lots of past Rapunzels around here, so they'll show up soon.

Congrats! I am currently playing Rapunzel too, and we are also doing "Our Little World"! (First rehearsal this Saturday)

I have asked many members here and others about the portrayal of Rapunzel, and here is some advice I found useful:
1. If you haven't already, get the Original Broadway Cast recording of "Into the Woods". It is addicting and well worth the buy. You can find it on iTunes for $9.99.
1a. "Our Little World" can be found on the Revival Cast recording on iTunes, if you don't have it.
2. Rapunzel is a funny part, but remember: She totally believes everything she is doing. Don't add random things in just to get a laugh.
3. Diction, especially with "OLW", is very important. Keeping your tone bright will help.
4. Screaming is a large part of her character, but please find a safe way to do so.

Also, this is a practice that Renethel from Youtube gave me:
Try to imagine yourself locked in your room with NO technology or communication. NO posessions....NOTHING! After being locked up for so long without a haircut, you notice that you have to take extra care of it so you don't end up having thick knots. Then, you notice that your hair has a nice sheen to it, therefore you want to keep your hair tame. It becomes more time consuming b/c you want to make sure that your hair gets all deserved treatment. But soon, you hear a prince call your name and you realize that he can get you out of this trap that your mother put you in... But how would your mother react? She said she locked you up b/c she loves you?!

Congrats again! I hope you have fun. Smile

Thanks!!! Into the Woods is my favourite all-time show so I have heard just about every cast recording available already Smile I have the show memorized already haha

The thing I am most worried about is the screaming...not gonna lie, the idea of having to do it like 50 times a show is slightly daunting...anyone offer scream training out there? lol

I can't help too much here. I nearly screamed my voice out a couple of times as Little Red. Didn't help my voice was changing and developing my higher range so everything kept going up another octave. You could trying shrieking quick short bursts and see if that effects your voice differently. Talk to a vocal teacher or instructor you know, they might have some good tips.

Have a word with the vocal coach and he may be able to help you with where to place it in your throat.

The only advice I can give is when you scream, don't scream your lungs out and tear your vocal chords apart. Try and pull back and bit, don't push it out.
