Yak hair wigs: what's the best way to clean?I found my wig today. (As well as my Great Aunt's china and many more Swiss Cheese CDs.)I was lucky in that it landed in a not so bad place. No muck and it was on something that allowed it to dry out. (I found a pair of brand new jeans that are like cheese cloth in spots, but they landed in a storage tub full of water..) I think, I've read that they shampoo them for the show? Is that reccomended? It does need a good febreezing, though. -- |

Hmm, as far as I recall the general approach for natural fibre wigs is a gentle swish in a tub or sink full of luke warm water and a tiiiny bit of very gentle shampoo (johnson & johnson baby shampoo is quite soft, and can be found in smaller bottles if you don't feel like switching to it for your own tresses for a while Keep mindful of any coloyr bleeding if the wig is heavily dyed. If you spot bleeding, remove it asap from the washing solution, trying to avoid any floating dye, and rinse carefully with cold water. Gently rinse it by scopping the water over it rather than running the wig under a tap. Let it airdry on a head form or something very close to headshaped to retain the shape of the base, but make sure this base "breathes" so thr wight of the water doesn't actually stretch the base in the drying process... ... I think. A few pages on wig care & maintenance: http://www.hairaddition.com/wig_washing.htm http://www.about-wigs.com/wigcare.html http://www.wigsite.com/faq.html#Q9 Good luck! |
