[The Drama Queen]

This spring our school is putting on the Wizard of Oz for our musical and I would absolutely LOVE to play Dorothy. I'm 14 (freshman) around 5'6, and have long brown hair and blue eyes. I'm a legit soprano, but I've been working very hard with my voice teacher on my break and it's smoothed out alot, so the lower notes in Over the Rainbow aren't really a problem. The main thing I'm worried about is how they've set up the audition.

All the girls are required to sing Over the Rainbow for auditions, and will read a scene for the Wicked Witch regardless of what part you want. How can I convince them that I can act the part of Dorothy without making them think I'd be the best person for the Witch instead??

Any help on characterizing Dorothy in Over the Rainbow would be very helpful also

Sorry hun, but the only thing I can really say is that you can't "convince" them of anything unless you really are the best person for the part. If I have any advice, it's this:
Just smile, and if you want to portray Dorothy, get into character. If your reading the Witches lines...well, don't be scared of reading it. Show that you can read it with confidence, the same thing going with your singing. And when you do sing, I advise getting into character. Think about Dorothy. What is her life like, why is she singing this song, what are her feelings in this song...things like that.
Good luck on your audition, I know what it feels like to really want a particular part.

Auditions are in 2 weeks, so if anybody has any additional help (especially if you've done the show before!)it would be greatly appreciated.

Its so frustrating how everyone else in this forum gets multiple replies to there topics by the next day with extremely helpful advice, and mine just gets ignored!
