wick?

non native english speaker seaking help
what does "wick" exactly mean? Dictionnaries don't help much :-C
I can imagine what it means because of the context and similqr words but I'm not really sure.
please help?

Hmm. How to explain it simply...
Wick means alive, in the Secret Garden, I believe it more specifically refers to plants that are green, or are at least green on the inside (ergo still alive).

It's essentially yorkshire slang mean alive, green, thriving.

Used in context:
Dickon knew that allthough the plant had yet to bud, it was still wick and within a few months, it had bloomed.

Thank you all; I understood the song; of course; but the meaning of "wick" had me completely lost. I thought it was a weird pronuntiation of "week" or somehing like that...
