Why does that man want the girl's lips?Dear Musicals.Net Posters,
Why in the song "Come to Me, Bend to Me" does that guy keep asking that girl to give him her lips? Wouldn't it be kinda silly to hand your lips over to some guy?

Idiomatic expressions"To give someone your lips" is an idiomatic expression meaning to allow someone to kiss you. One would assume that this expression was not delivered in a sarcastic manner in a love song.

I'm not sure Charlie has the capacity for sarcasm, anyway.
Since there's already a topic here, I'm just going to say I absolutely love this song. It's my favourite song in the show, but then again, I've heard it butchered by some people. So if you have a good tenor, it's a good song.
It does seem a little unfair though, Charlie gets two songs and Jean's only in the chorus. I think she needs a solo or two, just to make them even.

Actually, if you have a good Pit director they can arrange it differently to where It's a duet. Our choral director arranged it to where Charlie sings the majority but gives Jean a verse and the refrain is first sung by Charlie, then by Jean, then together in harmony. Really pretty.

Charlie does get all the glory. In the motion picture, Meg gets cut out off it except for like... 2 seconds. Jerks. The rocking story.. has a meaning. 2 seconds (No really) before I had to go onstage, the kid sat on the rocking chair and it snapped in half but the stage crew guy I know from a private company got out the drill and was like *vert vert vert* (the sound a drill makes of course) and fixed it. Oh gosh.. I thought it was going to SNAP onstage. Crazy times.

I hated when Meg's songs got cut out, they make the show. I mean, I love the various love stories, and all that, but without Meg, it really doesn't work. Too riqué, whatever, there is a lot worse than what Meg sings. It seems a lot of recordings change the last line in "My Mother's Wedding Day"- apparently the child being present at the wedding is not allowed. I've even heard at least one version that editted Charlie's line in "Go Home With Bonnie Jean"- apparently people take issue with the "I'll soon have a wife and leave yours alone." That is a great line, it always gets a laugh. Of course, that may have more to do with the absurdly high not at the end of it than with the actual line itself.
The rocking chair, that's crazy! Crew just live for the moments that we can point to and say with absolute certainty "without us, this would have fallen to hell." Of course, your crew guy was probably watching that whole scene, terrified it would collapse on you. That's what we do, the moments that freak us out the most are also the most memorable/exhilerating for us.

There was actually another version of Brigadoon (not the gene kelly version), once upon a time that had Come To Me and all of Meg's songs in it. It only aired on TV I think two times, and was never heard of again, until my recent search on imdb:

Sally Ann Howes (b'way revival of Fiona) and Edward Villella (b'way revival of Harry) were in it, as their previous roles.

Bob Goulet starred with Howes in the tv version you mentioed.
also..when I played Jeannie they gave me part of Come To Me Bend To Me. they turned it into a det through a wall. it was really well staged.
