Why does Dot stand next to Jules?

I showing SitPwG to some friends and I came to a strange revelation... Why does Dot stand next to Jules? I guess I never really paid attention at the end of Act 1/beginning of Act 2. Wouldn't it make more sense to have the man in the foreground of the painting standing next to the character that is Dot be Louis, the baker? Jules could then be the man on the lefthand side behind the boatman. Just a random thought.

because the character of jules would dressl ike the man next to dot.

the characters are based on the look and quality of the people in the painting.

My guess would be that George doesn't want to put Dot near Louis. In fact, he puts him way in the background making him as insignificant as possible. I can't think of a reason that it's significant that the man next to her happens to be Jules.
