Whole step higher?

On the original broadway cast soundtrack, verses the music "that'll show him" for Philia, is the CD a whole step higher then the music in the actual show? Because, DANG, I have to sing it for auditions as I found out, YET the music is wrong compared to the CD which I've been rehearsing for over a year! Arhg!

I don't know if it is, but if it is, ask them to play it at the audition a key higher than the way it's written. Either that, or try to learn it the key down. Shouldn't be all that hard.

It may be that the original Philia felt more comfortable singing in the higher key, and they just transposed the song for her. I would venture a guess that most show music is written in keys common for the vocal range, and so are very adaptable to individual performers.

That being said, any accompanist worth his salt should be able to play the song in any key you need. Good luck!
