Who Wants to Hear About My Callbacks?

Ragtime callbacks play-by-play:
Everyone else arrived around 2:30. Since I could not, other Chicago cast members and myself arrived at 5:15-ish. When we got there, some people hadn't even been seen yet. Basically, not very well organized callbacks.
A few of my friends came and went out of the room. The Mothers were the first ones to go in after we got there, and those who were waiting could listen to those who were singing. Everyone at these callbacks knew each other, so we tried to guess who was singing.
After Mothers were Emmas, Younger Brothers, Fathers, Tatehs. By the time they called in Evelyn it was about 8:00.
The nine Evelyns went in, we sang Crime of the Century and we also did some scales. Then they said they would like to ask some of us to leave. They asked four to leave, and kept four other girls and myself. Then they younger brothers were called in and we did a scene with them a few times. We all did the Weeees! They then asked three girls (not including myself) to leave. My only competition was this girl that I have known for a very long time. Our parents are close and I am close to her younger sister. Thank goodness for that, that I actually in there with someone I knew. The choreographer took us back and taught us a dance. We came back in and danced while we sang, and then we were excused.

So I'd say about a 50% chance?
Brigantine

Awesome!!! Sounds like you do have that 50/50 chance.
Good Luck!!

I'm glad that you were able to make callbacks. I remember reading your other post about it conflicting with Chicago. It sounds like it went really well. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you. Smile

What a cool part Smile Good luck!
christinadaae

So I didn't get the part.

I really thought that I was going to.

SO close though!

There've been several times I've been one of the last 3 or 4 girls left at a callback and not got the role. : ( Several times I was one of the last 4 and there were 3 roles and I got nothin! (In the case of Rocky horror, for example.)

Did you at least get in the ensemble?
christinadaae

Yes. But this kind of makes a decision for me. There are a lot of things I want to do this summer. Even though I would still love to be in the ensemble, this kind of gives me one up on my decisions.

If that makes any sense at all.

I'm sorry that you didn't get the part. Sad If that leaves you open to do something else that is good. Smile Just make sure that it doesn't hurt your chances to be a part of this group again.

It's part of the showbiz...happens all the time. I was at a callback for Emily in Our Town and it was down to me and 2 other girls...I felt like I had the best read and I looked the most like the parents that they had already decided had the parts...but I didn't get it. I was really dissapointed, so I can totally feel your pain :/

Also, if your audition was for community theatre there could be politics involved. Or, what am I talking about?! Even in proffessional theatre there might be politics involved!!

=) Hope that made you feel better haha.

I 've been at multiple callbacks w/ one other female many a time, and it has often happened that NEITHER of us got the role. They sang, danced, read us for hrs, then called up someone they had used alot in the past.

The phone never rings, and you realize offers HAD to be out, then you run into that girl at another audition.

"But I thought you were in rehearsel for Miss Rock n' Roll at the Mediocre Dinner Playhouse/Steakhouse in Vienna, Mississippi?"

"But I didn't get it. I thought YOU must have got it?"

"They never called me. Guess we'll never know."

Back in the pre-internet days, you would NEVER find out who was cast in some of these things.

That would drive me insane!

I like it when my High School director doesn't do callbacks.

Politics I think play even MORE in the professional world...

And it's especially hard when you as an auditioner have put a lot of time into the callback process, etc.

When I auditioned for a regional production of SOM, they called me back FIVE TIMES!!!!!!!!!! (I got it, but by the end, I was starting to wonder if all the time I took off of work to go to the callbacks was going to pay off...)
greenspottedantlers

thats too bad but congrats on getting so far!!
