Who's the most memorable character?

Hello,

I realise asking who the most memorable character is pretty subjective, and of course it depends on how the actor portrayed the role, but I'm not sure between Chris and The Engineer. I'm talking male roles here, not female (that's easy Wink ).

Chris seems like a bit of a drip, whilst the Engineer seems to be too seedy to be liked by the audience.

What do you think?

The Engineer is more fun. But his motives seem pretty simple – America and wealth. Chris does seem a bit of a wet, spending most of the musical expressing his regret about something or other. But I think Chris is either quite pleasingly complex or quite badly written, depending on whether or not you like the show. For example, right at the start, he sings of his reluctance to sleep with a young prostitute, but then he still does it. It's as if the writers are trying to make him seem a nice guy while he's doing something bad. Then when he (involuntarily) does something right – starts to care about Kim properly – he sings about it as if it's a tragedy. So now the writers are showing us how selfish he can be while he's doing something good. Then again, maybe Chris is just a compulsive whinger Wink
So...yar. The Engineer is cooler, but Chris made me (over)think. I vote Chris.

If I had to chose between Chris and Engineer, I'd pick Chris hands down. I feel like he is a victim of circumstance. Alot of my friends said he was a prick for leaving her and marrying someone else. But, oh my, if you watch Madame Butterfly, Chris is soooooooooooooo much better than Pinkerton. So, that made me like Chris even more Very Happy .

The Engineer is the only well-written, memorable character.
What Is This Feeling?

Umm, I have to disagree with you actor. Although, The Engineer is wonderful, John, Ellen AND Kim are all splendid as well. Chris is dreadful and either too immature or too whiny. Ugh.

I like John the best as a character. He shows more growth than any other character in the show. He goes from a marine who wants to "buy" his friend a girl for the night to a social advocate who is doing some good in this world. Chris is a wus and the engineer is too one dimensional. The engineer is a fun role, but he never really shows any character growth through the show. Kim is obviously great too, as is Ellen.
music is my life!!!

I think Ellen is great, and very memorable!
