Who's da BEST!?

What do you think?
Ado Annie
Aunt Eller
Laurey

Of course, Laurey has more songs and whatnot......blah. I know the musical, but what do y'all think?

I think Ado Annie is awesome! She is so much fun. She is just a girl who is finally having some fun and enjoying it. She is so innocent in her actions, because she is just having, well, fun. Laurey is so boring. Her songs are obnoxious. Sorry, just my opinion.

Well I've done Oklahoma myself and have seen other performances of it usually Ado Annie knocks Laurey right off. Ado Annie is such a fun character that the audience just loves her and wants to see all the time. yes Laurey is the main lead but for some reason the character doesn't appeal to audiences like Ado Annie does. Same with Curly, Will uses surpasses Curly alot too. The audience loves Will alot. I think the audience gets tired of the Curly Laurey love thing, it gets sickening.

I'd have to say Ado Annie is way better than Laurey, but my personal fav is aunt eller. maybe i'm biased because I've played her before.....but i loved it and i think she is the greatest character. she's definitely the comic relief, and just an all around great character!
Sparkling Diamond

i know everyone says ado annie is the best part, and its probably true cause it must be so much fun to play, but i still prefer Laurey, maybe its because i know i could play it better than i could annie ? i dont know, but Laurey - providing shes played as a tomboy and not a boring, wimpy simpering character - is the best part, and aunt eller, well you just got to love her, im too old for youth groups and so will have to wait quite some years before i will get the chance to audition for aunt eller !
soccergirl

Sparkling Diamond, I never thought of Laurey being played by a tomboy. That makes her so much likeable just thinking about it. When I did it Laurey was prim and proper, and "Why wouldn't everybody love me-ish." I thought she was obnoxious, but a tomboy Laurey would really be adorable. Thanks for the insight.

I watched the movie a LONG time ago, so I really don't remember what the character was like. Sorry

Tomboy is how it's played on Broadway, with Josefina in overalls and braids. It's quite adorable...I like her much more there than in the movie when she's all in frills and lace and being pretty and whatnot. I think the farmer girl is much more approachable and charming...Just my $.02!

Aunt Eller, by far

nmi Cool

Ado Annie all the way.................

I played Laurey recently, and although I opted for the tomboy portrayal, I still envied the girl playing Ado Annie. Ado is much more appealing to audiences than Laurey because she's got so much spunk and personality---she's just a fun character to watch. And no matter how you slice it, Laurey's a typical Rogers and Hammerstein ingenue. But then, I'm a sucker for character roles.

GERTIE!

I like gertie the best...
Probably because I had so much fun playing her, especially that idiotic laugh...
Well, I also think Aunt Eller is fun.. you get to act pretty much drunk the entire time...
*Songbird*

aunt eller as a drunk? what?
and they had laurey in overalls?? Im all for the tomboy thing..but overalls??? yikes.

I think Laurey is the best part. She's pretttier than Annie and her songs are much better. Annie can get a little annoying. I think Laurey's best played as a girly girl like Shirley Jones, but that's just my opinon. I do think that Aunt Eller is very cool too though!
Big Al

WOW! i definetly think AUNT ELLER above all the rest. If the Aunt Eller can really get into it she can steal the show! I Did! We just finished OKLAHOMA and i was Aunt Eller. She is probably my favorite character. She gets to kinda act drunk and she hits on all the guys. she's kinda a slut i guess. She makes all these random, snoody, ornery ,comments all the time and she really runs the town. She's kinda everyones mom. Things always go her way. I think she's can steal the show if you get the right person!

That's a bit of a biased poll Wink

I love that poll!!! Thanks it gave me a laugh on an otherwise bad day!

best

Hmm I could be slightly swayed by past involvement in Oklahoma, but I have to say each have their own special characteristic it all depends..
Ado Annie- Is comedic and DITZY (cute songs!)
Aunt Eller- Is the comedic relief in most cases and is "a wise ole womern" (not really a whole lot of dancing and singing, mostly acting)
Laurey- Normal lead romantic female (Rogers and Hammerstien really stick with one common formula and changed it slightly each time she is the oppitomy of lead female).. but GREAT lead part, AMAZING songs, not incredibly comical but very meorable

Depends on your views of what is the best^^^

gertie

I agree with crazychica. Gertie would be the most fun. I want to play her. I hanv't in a performance, but it sounds the most fun to be for me.

But, other than that Ado Annie would be the best. But its hard for me to say that, because my friend was Ado Annie, one time. And she was like made for the role. So she would be a better Ado Annie. And I would be a better Gertie.
Salome

I played Laurey twice and I love the role. she isnt a flittering girlie girl at all but a vey spunky frontier daughter. I would never ant ot play Annie she isnt given the opportunity for angst and deeper emotions. Laurey is a gem of a role and I amo glad Josephina showed broadway what the role can be if handled properly unlike the film where SHirley Jones coys her way through with little thought.

Laurey is facinated nad sexually attracted to Jud in spite of the danger and her love for Curlkey is greatly tested due to her pig headedness and need to be in control as well.

Annie i suppose can be fun but compared ot Laurey and the emotional rock that Aunt Eller is to the play she pales greatly.
Papagena

I would have to say Ado-Annie. Not just because I'm playing her, but because she's funny, innocent and lovable. Of course she is a bit ditzy, but that's part of what makes her funny and a great character to play. I do agree wtih Salome about her not being able to show deeper and angstier emotions (that's not really a word, I just made that up). That can problem for people who have do deeper emotions they wish to express, but not for me. But it's also a role in which there is a lot of freedom, rather than having a character like... say Jud for instance, who has be a certain way or else the show doesn't really make sense. Anyway, that's just what I think.
