who is this?At the end of "Be Our Guest" (in the disney version, it's the only version i've ever heard), behind the words "then we'll sing you off to sleep as you digest", someone is singing some high "Ah"'s apart from everyone else.
Does anyone know what character is singing this solo? I'm asuming the wardrobe..

I've always thought it's the wardrobe!

If you've seen "The Producers," than you'll know it's not the Wardrobe... it's Carmen Ghia.

I don't know about the movie, but in the score it's assigned to Babette. (However, we did give it to our Wardrobe...the actress was more comfortable with it than our Babette, and besides...suddenly bursting into a coloratura run in the middle of a song is such a Wardrobe thing to do. lol)

Yup, it's the Wardrobe.

On Broadway, it is Babette, definitely, for sure. Trust me. =)

Heh. I take it you're not familiar with the "Keep It Gay" scene in The Producers. At the song's climax, a counterpoint melody is sung in falsetto by Carmen Ghia obviously styled after, and almost stolen from, Wardrobe's melody in Be Our Guest.

oh, i am soooooo familiar with the producers. and i know exactly what part in "keep i gay" your talking about. butt i still dont get what your saying. before you said, "if you've seen the producers then you'd know its not the wardrobe, its carmen ghia." and now your saying that that part of the producers "keep it gay" was taken from "be our guest", and part that the wardrobe sings..your confusing me. was your first comment supposed to be a joke? cause if so, haha. if not..yeah, your confusing me.

It is babette's in the libretto, but sometimes they give it to the character that is most comfortable with it.

In our production, we had Mrs. Potts, Babette, The Wardrobe, and the like 2 top sopranos sing it.

I think in the score it's Babette (I don't have my music with me at the moment so I don't really know) but it's usually given to the actress that is most comfortable with it.

I agree its generally either babette or the wardrobe but in our production Lumiere sang it coz he had a scarily high range.

Our Lumiere had a wicked falsetto. He could have done it too, but Lumiere is so masculine.

That would have been quite a show if he was allowed to do it.

She did??
I didn't think she had that kind of range...
I remember Anahi doing it in rehearsal and being really good, but... alas, she's dumb and quit. lol
For some reason I thought you and Cailey (sp??) did it...

no, it was Lisa. Go watch the video on youtube, you see it was her.
Yeah Anahi did it, then Steph didn't like it so Lisa sang it.
I def. could not have hit that back then.

But after doing the Mob Song so many times, along with a whole bunch of Field of Flowers', you can BELT those notes now!
I wish Anahi had done it... Steph was AWESOME, but Anahi would have done a wonderful job, too.

Yeah it's too bad Anahi quit.
Mind you, like a quarter of the original cast quit. Oh my, I bet they regret it now.
I love our random sex change bit in the Mob Song. "Lord and here we gooooo...*ahem* BRING YOUR GUNS"

You forgot about the upside-down Bible with the Cinderella monologue glued inside it!
EDIT: Just thought of another one.
"Hey! Nice jugs!"
|

That WAS pretty exceptional.
The best prop though was obviously my milk buckets.
That and the fact that EVERYONE thought they were so clever saying "Nice jugs."
LOL. So I just scrolled down, and you mentioned the nice jugs thing on your edit which I hadn't seen when I wrote this.

Heck yes I am.
We've done how many shows together?
Let's see, Honk, BatB, Narnia, Aladdin, and now Just So.
Could've sworn it was more than that, but you had to go and not do spring shows. pffft.

I'm playing Lumiere in a touring revue right now. Usually, I take the high C at the end of Be Our Guest, but I have on occasion, sang the Wardrobe/Babette falsetto part. It's fun.

Hey! Not my choice!
I hope I can do Alice... I really don't want to do the show, but I want to do a Spring Show, ya know? I had such an awesome time in Pinocchio and Aladdin...
