Who is Bobby, really?Bobby is a living contradiction, a character who everyone sees so much in but who shows the audience absolutely no character traits save for indecision.
I'm trying hard to fully understand this character, but the only thing coming to mind is Zelig, the awkward character who coexists by metamorphosing into whoever he is around and whatever they need.
Does Bobby have any inherent character traits or personality?

It's how the show is written for all of the characters, really, except for maybe April and Joanne. A majority of the characters are entirely up to interpretation and can be taken in almost any direction. That's just my opinion, though.

They both have a number of scenes and lines that explain who they are pretty well.

I think that Bobby isn't meant to be a fully developed character, just like the play itself isn't supposed to have a plot. He's more of an idea. Hm, I'm not explaining it very well am I.

Here's my main question though.
Is he a confused cad who's not sure what he wants, but knows he wants people and pulls them in, or is he a blank slate that people are attracted to because of his malleability? Is he seductive, maybe a bit suave and good with people, or is he confused, nervous and somewhat awkward? Is he more Alfie or Woody Allen/Lee Pace?
The confusion comes because the script writes him as the awkward, confused one, but characters behave towards him as if he were a charming Lothario.

I see bobby as just someone there watching all of these things and sort of analyzing his life without actually interacting. Although he does interact but not really. It's really like this stuff is happening all around him but he is just in the middle of it. He's a very bland character, I think. Until the end. Although he has a few motives.

I think it's gonna be easier to make a good movie of Company than a really good stage production. A passive, malleable character like Bobby works much better on film than on stage.

I agree Bobby would be better on film, but it would be harder to portray the rest of the character sand their situations and songs on film than on stage.
