Who did you play?

It seems like everyone I talk to is either a) doing Fiddler, or b) has done Fiddler. So, who did you play (or are you playing right now)? Did you enjoy it? Oh, and if you have any pictures of you playing your role, please post them!!! This will also (hopefully) be helpful for those of us who are currently in the show to know who to PM with questions of their characters. Mr. Green

I'm playing Chava right now. Haven't started rehearsals yet, but will be soon. I adore the role, and I can't wait to perform it!
Cake_in_Song

I was Fruma Sarah. It was pretty wicked, but I don't have any pictures. Just imagine me (find some pics in the last picture thread if you don't know what I look like) wearing a hideous wedding dress, sitting on a ladder, waving my arms madly, and screaming in high C.
Buff Daddy

I played Perchik in 2004.

When Perchik first meets Tevye:

My first rehersal for Fiddler is tomorrow! i cant wait! i'm playing Chava!x
DaddyDiesel

The first show and role I ever had was Mendel in Fiddler. I would post a picture but I was 15, funny looking (not like that has changed much), and probably couldnt find a pic if I tried. LOL Im not that old but Digital cameras werent were not popular at the time.
norayouadora

Currently playing Golde. Well actually... Currently cast as Golde and possessing a script, but the read-through isn't even until February 28--such is the crazy workings of my school's music dept. Lol. But I will definitely take tons of pictures when the show finally begins. I'm so excited. Very Happy

I am in love with Fiddler on the Roof. It definitely is one of the greatest musicals of all time. It's such a joy, to do it. It's my second time to do it, Rehearsals are currently underway. I am playing Sasha, and doing the Russian Solo in "To Life"--because I am the only guy in our company of 60+ that can only sing it without strain...haha...I guess thats an honor?

When I was in it in high school, I played Mordcah--and we didnt have any russians that could sing that solo, so guess what--I sang it too. Our school's production of Fiddler, sucked very badly though.

I will probably do this show 4 or 5 times more before I die. Everyone does it for one, and two, I love it a lot.

Wooo! Okay, you're my new fave here Smile
brown_eyed_actress

I'm playing Tzeitel right now ... pretty fun stuff! I love her character; she's responsible, but still can pick fun at her sisters and be silly.

The Chava in our production is a sweetie: I think it's stereotyping that every Chava has to be pretty and sweet. She's the favorite child and everything ... star2ballie, have you heard "Chavaleh" yet? It's a beautiful beautiful song! Lots of dance in it too! Smile

Aww that's such a sweet thing to say about Chavas Smile My (haha...like she belongs to me) Tzeitel is AMAZING. I absolutely adore her and she really is starting to seem a lot like an older sister. And my Hodel is my very best friend so that's already set Smile Anyway, yes I've heard Chavaleh, I absolutely adore it and I can't wait to learn the dance!
I Love Lockstock

It's hard, especially in this show, to NOT become a family with your cast!
superdave

Next to "To Life", "Chavaleh" is my favorite song in the show.
brown_eyed_actress

Yea, I don't know if I could even try to pick a favorite song!! I absolutely love the dancing the guys do in "To Life" and, the Russian solo is my favorite part! "Matchmaker" is way up there on the list, of course, and so is "Chavaleh"! I also love "Do You Love Me" and "Now I Have Everything" because they're both so beautiful! Wink

mcfly2015

i am a villager in Tradition, Sabbath Prayer, To Life, Wedding Dances and The Rumor as well as the Fish and Bagel Seller (Fish, Fresh Fish; Bagels, Fresh Bagels)

This is my 1st time doing Fiddler and it has definitely trump Annie as my favorite show of all time and our cast has become very close during are rehearsal time. I agree that is very hard not to. Anyways, we open March 1st. I will keep everyone posted.
maddawg54

in my first ever production i was in Fiddler and i was Lazar. it was a very fun part, and "To Life" was a great song to do
bmw8822

Fiddler was my first production with other than the 8th grade rendition of Annie. I played Motel and absolutly loved the part and the production!

i know i can pull it off now though Cool
phantomphan85

I've never done this musical, sadly, which is a shame because it's a great favourite of mine, but I would love to play one of the daughters while I'm still young enough!
bbforsheebee

we actually are just starting our first rehearsals for fiddler this week and I'm playing Hodel and couldn't be more excited.
jessiemil42

Yente

Here's a new one for ya....

Yente the matchmaker.....it was crazy fun, my dad didn't even know who I was until halfway through the show because of the accent I used.

not many 17 year olds (at the time) get to play Yente.

These are the videos from it that my friend put on youtube Wink
Radames's_Angel

Our performance is on Friday, and I am playing Tzeitel. Our production is going pretty badly though, firstly our teacher doesn't make anyone sing, so the only people singing are Hodel and I singing part of Matchmaker (although our drama teacher wouldn't let us do all of it) and about 2 weeks ago, Hodel found out she could only go to one performance, so now one of the girls only barely knows what we're singing, and not all of her lines...
OzHair

Tevye here. It was a few years back.

Here's a pic:

Cheers

I played Chava. I got the role two weeks before the show. Fyedka got his a week before the show.

... Yes, we both had breakdowns. but we still did it. And we stole the show!

Here were the grades of the daughters:
Tzeitel - Junior
Hodel - Senior
Chava - Freshman
Bielke - Senior (short senior)
Shprintze - Senior (short senior)

Tevye was a graduate who played the role there 35 years ago.
Golde was a graduate who was in it 35 years ago.
Motel was a senior from another high school and Hodel's boyfriend.
Perchik was a graduate.
Fyedka was a junior and best friends with Tzeitel.

MsDivaKate, your voice was perfect for Hodel. Beautiful job!
ty.gab

i played Mendel.
and was one of the four bottle dancers.
just over a month ago.

there are photos from my production on another thread on the fiddler forum titled "production photos.".
MaryMag

I played Hodel. I've auditioned for Fiddler twice in addition to that, though, and have an audition for a pro production of it in about a week. Wish me luck!

oh, here's me in that first production:

That picture must have been taken right after Perchik was clubbed unconscious during the scuffle with the soldier.
norayouadora

^Lol, that was my exact reaction to this picture, too. I thought "oh, it's after Perchik gets beaten up at the wedding." Very Happy
star2ballie

Nah, it's the scene where Perchik gets trashed at the local tavern. Remember??

Good luck, MM! You look fantastic as Hodel in that picture. Who will you be auditioning for?
mary_lion

I was just cast as Hodel! Im so excited!
phantomphan85

Congratulations!
Jman383

I played Avram and LOVED it! Favorite role EVER. Smile

Oh and to whoever said that when they played Mordcha they also sang the "To Life" solo, so did our Mordcha! Btw, if anyone wants to check out videos from the production I was in... here you are! :

We're doing Fiddler right now and I was cast as a chorus member, but I'm also the Fiddler. Should be fun!

Minor roles that are often (but not always) cast from the chorus are: Yussel, the hatter who supplied Motel's wedding hat; Grandma Tzeltal; and Fruma-Sarah.
Berger

When I did Fiddler I was Mendel and a bottle dancer. Doing the bottle dancer was maybe one of the best things I have ever done because there were no velcro or anything like that. Not to mention its make everyone in the audience go crazy.
LarcyTheActress

i was cast as chava and i have NO ballet experience! Shocked will i be ok Question
Graius

You'll be fine.
freakycallbackgirl

I played Chava and had the best time of my life Very Happy

Ensemble
jessiemil42

I was Grandma Tzeitel, u/s Yente, and part of the russian ensemble. And it was an amazing production. The man who played Fruma Sarah (yes, we had a guy...) and I got to be flown crazily across the audience and it was a blast!
Brigantine

I played Tzeitel. this was a small community theater production and about 7-8 years ago. Someday I'd like to play Golde.
for the most part, I really loved out cast, except my Motel. Lazar and I joked backstage that I would gladly take him; forget that tailor! Wink
Forora

Ah.
Love this show!
I played Perchik.
Now I have everything is probably one of my favorite musical numbers too.

Such a great show.
