Who'd you play?

Hey, I'm new here! I was just cast as Erma in Anything Goes(so excited!), and I was wondering which characters some of you guys played. Of course, you can post your feelings(good or bad) about the character you were cast as.
Salome

Hope Harcourt..twice.
nycbound

I played Erma! Have fun! It's such a great role!
purenergy99

Salome, did you play Hope in both versions?
Salome

yes.
star2ballie

I played Reno. Smile

I loved my character, but I loved the overall show even more. I truly think Cole Porter is an absolute GENIUS.
Salome

Allie..since you are so taken with Porter..have you checked out his other sahows..you'd love laot of his lesser known songs..they are often better even than his well known stuff. Ive been collecting Porter songs my whole life since i was a teen. its a maddness with me! LOL
Lepitot

I played the Bishop.
Mara

I played Erma - it was the best experience of my life. I love Anything Goes and I love Porter. I'm slowly getting a pretty good collection of his songs.
Salome

Mara do you own Out of this World and SIik Stocking?
i'm_back

I was Billy. It was so much fun.

Cherry Pies Ought to be You is from Out of This World right?

loves it.
nycbound

I love "Silk Stockings." "Satin and Silk" and "Paris Loves Lovers" are my favorite songs from it. I don't know "Out of This World" very well though.
Mara

I own Silk Stockings. But the only songs I know from Out of this World are "Where O Where" and "I Am Loved".
DanUSGS

I played Moonface. It was fab.
norayouadora

Aw, I played Mrs. Harcourt in my school's production when I was a sophomore... It was pretty exciting for me; sophomores don't usually get big roles in the musical, and it was basically my first "principle" role. Yeah, this show has some good memories for me. Very Happy
Melindaisy

I played Hope....
Dancediva19

I played Patience the Angel. (Yeah, we added two more Angels so we had six total.)

Being an Angel was so awesome! We had a lot of fun dances (which another Angel and I still occasionally break into), we had the best costumes (the envy of all the female sailors and passengers) and just a lot of fun over all!
norayouadora

^Ha, we did the same thing (many productions do), and one of our added ones was Patience, too. The other was Grace. Very Happy

Our other angel was Joy. They cast the PERFECT person to play her, too. Come to think of it, all of the angels were cast really well!

Was the girl that played her just a really happy person or something?
Dancediva19

She really was, and she always put everyone around her in a good mood too.

Lol, that's funny, ours was played so that the girls would act the opposite of their traits--Virtue was skanky, Charity was greedy, Grace was clumsy, etc. It was pretty funny. Very Happy
Dancediva19

Me (Patience) and Chastity were the only ones that played opposite our names. The others went according to their names.
*BroadwayLights*

I'm currently in the ensemble. I have two of Passenger #1's lines. Tonight is our first costume rehearsal. I'm excited! Smile
Dancediva19

Good luck!

(Though you've probably had opening night already. I've been away at camp all week, so I'm a little behind.)
chewychewy26

I was one of Reno's Angels..we had a lot of tap dancing, but I completely got jipped..

I got called back for Erma and was up against two other girls. They ended up double casting the show and the two other girls both got Erma but I got an angel..they needed four good tap dancers, and I happened to be one of the four that could do the combination we were taught at auditions..The cast list was handwritten and under one of the girl's names next to Erma there were huge eraser marks..and I'm absolutely sure that my name was there before her's. Sad oh well.
Dancediva19

That stinks to be THAT close to getting the role. But you should feel special that you're a better tap dancer than those girls! Laughing

Wow. That does sorta stink. But I mean, if you look on the bright side, those girls dont get to be in every show. And YOU do.
Buff Daddy

I was featured sailor (No Cure Like Travel), FBI Agent, Reporter, sailor quartet and Moonface understundy.

Buff Very Happy
Norma Desmond

I played Ling (one of the 2 Chinese converts). Probably one of the most fun shows I've ever done.

The whole cast was so upset when the show finished. We never wanted this one to end!
Beagle On Stage

I was the purser and the steward, which we just pretended were one and the same character (which we called the purser).

I almost didn't do the show. I hadn't auditioned because, having no background in Cole Porter at the time, I thought it was going to be lame. But not enough people auditioned, so the director cast the principal roles with what was there, and called about five of us and guilt tripped us into doing it as a personal favor. I'm so glad she did because it was my first exposure to CP and now I adore him...and I know I never would have done it if she hadn't been desperate. lol.

I was in the ensemble this past summer. It was sooooo much fun! Very Happy
tragre6945

I was lucky enough to be cast as Billy in my school's production this summer. It was the most fun I've ever had in a show. We did the '62 version, and despite all the hate regarding it around here, I really enjoyed being a part of it!

Beaumont '87 Version

Lord Evelyn Oakley in the '87 version. I've seen the original version at a neighboring high school and I must say that the '87 version is a vast improvement on the first. It's certainly a lot more funny and has a better part for Evelyn.

It's really not bad.
Norma Desmond

We did the '62 version as well, and found the entire thing to be wonderful.

It's very rare to do a show where the cast still laughs at every joke and punchline, but we had the exact same level of energy and enthusiasm for this show from the first read-through to the final performance.
lildennyonbroadway

I just got done playing Hope in the '62 version and loved every minute of it! It was the most fun i've ever had in a show/role.

Twin

I just got cast as one of the french twins in this musical on friday. My twin being my real twin sister. And i am soooo excited. we do our first runthrough tomorow!!!! There arnt any french twins in any versions of the play so we are basicaly fust little french girls that are passengers. We are going to have a few lines we will have to speak in french and will be runing from our nanny. Laughing
purenergy99

You'll have a lot of fun in this show. We got back from state theatre fest about a month ago, and I'm still in post-show depression....
Coweh

I was Billy last year in my school's production. The whole thing was a blast! The girl who played Hope and I were both new to the school, but everyone just welcomed us into the fold right away.

It was funny, the audition cast-list was the '87 one, but we were actually doing the '62 version. I feel sorry for anyone who auditioned for Erma...
filmphan821

I was just cast as Hope in the 62 version. I'm dissapointed that it's the 62 version...but it still seems like a fun show.

The '62 version is so fun to play. We had a ball!

the 87 version is much better but honestly..the version of Delovely in the 62 version is more fun to do.
ciarabelle

I just got cast as Hope before Christmas.

I'm very excited about it, it's my first lead in highschool!

Hopefully (no pun intended) it will be an awesome show, it looks like such a fun show! we did Oliver last year (i was Bet) and it was kind of depressing, so I'm excited for this one because it is very comical.
Surprisingly talented

I played Mrs. Harcourt, in the 30's version. It was awesome! It was my first big role, and only the 2nd production I'd been in. (I was ensemble in Beauty and the Beast the year before) My school always does a musical in the fall, and a play in the spring, so I'm hoping to get another role soon.
BroadwayBeast

I was the "No Cure Like Travle" soloist, and The Tenor 1 in the Sailor Quartet
QueenSara

I was just cast as Purity in our school's production. I'm really happpy because I'm a freshman and this is my first production with the school. Hehe...I'm a total dork though, so my friends are all saying that I'm gonna have to work to find my inner slut...=D

currently rehearsing, '87 version, Lord Evelyn Oakleigh, AMAZING PART!we're getting down to the last couple of weeks before the show, I'm kind of nervous, but it's all SO exciting! The part is hilarious! And we seem to have a lot in common. And the Gypsy In me Dance is crazy!
jax1491

I'm going to be playing Hope. I wish I was a guy because I really want to play Evelyn. Very Happy But my friend is playing him and it should be great because he's hilarious.
musictheatre00

jax ,your sig is AWESOME, that has to be one of the best lines of the show.
jax1491

It's my favorite. Very Happy It might be my favorite line in any show...ever.
Jellicle_Jule

This sort of topic never gets old! =) Our show was last year, but oh well. Anyway, I was Mrs Harcourt in the '87 version, and it's still my favourite role out of all the ones I've played so far. (Which totally had nothing to do with the fact that I played opposite a very dishy Whitney and we had crazy good chemistry. *cough*) It just so happened that my little sister was Hope, so that was fun. xD But seriously, it was a great part. My director wanted me to try for Reno, but i was all "uh, dude, I'm a dork. can't do it. comic relief > sexy bombshell, anyway." I practically begged for the part, and I'm so glad I did. Probably could have done without the real dog onstage that refused to move, though.

~JJ

P.S. It took me forever to actually get the joke in "you know a shortcut?"
