The Duchess of Mint

Which type of Christine do you like the most (hair color)?

Dear "TPotO" Fans,

Which type of Christine do you like the most, with regards to hair color...blonde, brownette/ brunette, or redhead?

Christine was a blonde in the original "Phantom" novel. She is usually portrayed as a brunette in the musical. I've never heard of a redheaded Christine.

Thanks in advance for your participation in the poll, and for your replies.

I'm partial to the brunettes.

It's a silly thing for me, I suppose, but I was about fourteen when I first saw pictures from the original cast and I was so glad to see a main female character with brown hair. I'm a brunette and, after a lifetime of golden or raven-haired characters in stories, I was glad to see a brunette!

I first read the book and the image of a blonde Christine has stuck in my head ever since. Same for Meg(except, having dark hair of course). Christine's obsessed with angels and light and summer anyways, so being golden hair suits her.

I couldn't care less what color hair they have as long as it looks natural on them. I only care that they can act and sing very well.

Shame that most lead Soprano parts are all brunettes though...

(Cause I'm strawberry blonde).

I guess I don't really care what her hair color is... Although brunette is kind of the standard I guess.
What Is This Feeling?

I've never heard of Christine onstage without brunette hair or a brunette wig! So I voted for Brunette.

Brunette. I've never even heard of a redhead Christine. I can't really think of any redhead MT characters at the moment except for Annie, and i have auburn hair, so I guess I'll always have to wear a wig.

We've had a similar topic like this one and I remember (I think it was TVAW) someone putting forward some pictures of blonde/redhead Christines. There were only three or four though.

My thoughts exactly! Except the heores of my childhood stories was either blondes or redheads.

I used to think I didn't have too strong opinions on the matter, but after seeing the superblonde Hungarian Christines I longed for the "classic" brunettes. There have been various grades of brunette wigs, it depends on the productions and actress. The Australian and Asian Christines tends to have very dark wigs, while some German and Canadian Christines had very light brown wigs, borderlining blonde (Patti Cohenour, Janine Kitzen). But most are somewhere in between.

The specific brown colour of the wig is adjusted to each actress, though. The general tendence in West End has been rather dark wigs for Christine, but most Christine actresses has been naturally brunettes too. When a blonde(r) actress do the role, she often gets a paler wig. Look at the two current West End Christines:

Robyn North (left) is naturally blonde, Leila Benn Harris is a brunette (right). This is reflected in their wigs, so the skin tone doesn't appear sickly on stage...

Haha, Christine is a tad bit too whiney for me Smile She'd drive me nuts!
