Which soundtrack should I buy?I need help! I've heard lots about Rent from friends and I really want to get the soundtrack but I don't know which one to get. There is the OBC recording for £13 or various artists for £24. The costs doesn't bother me but I want to get the best one.Thanks in advance for your response. Steph |

There is no soundtrack with the original Broadway cast. Two people in the soundtrack were not in the original show. And as far as I know there are no other soundtracks of RENT.

My mistake, it just says original cast recording, this is the listing of the soundtracks on amazon

Get the OBC. | ||||

Movie Soundtrack. | ||||

I'm gonna go with the popular answer and say OBC. The arrangement of the movie soundtrack is good but it can't be compared to the energy of the OBC (and you get all the songs on the OBC).

Before some person rips your head off, in the USA, "soundtrack" is only for film and"cast recording" is for any stage version.

I think you should get the Original soundtrack. If it's the same soundtrack that you guys are talking about, then I think I have found that album on Napsterlinks. You can check out the songs to see if you want to but it. I have listened to a couple of songs from there, and they're not bad.

The OBC is the only choice if you are only going to buy just one!

Isn't there also a highlights CD that doesn't have the Voice Mails and Tune Ups?
| The Very Angry Woman |
Yes. | ||||

OBC, like most have said.
It has so much more to it. =] OBC. Daphne and Fredi! |

I bet I'm gonna get my head ripped off for this but I like the movie soundtrack better...only because presonally, I think the quality of the recording is a little better.

I will somewhat agree. While the Movie Soundtrack is lacking in songs, it does have a more professional sounding audio quality. Nonetheless, I still prefer the OBC. |

The musical arrangement is excellent on the soundtrack. For instance, "RENT" really rocks more than it does on the OBC and I think "What You Own" sounds better. OBC offers closer to the complete show and therefore is more cohesive but I think both lack all of Mark's exposition. |

I agree. I like the Soundtrack way more than I do the OBC.
And - please don't shoot me for this - I like Dawson and Thoms better than Vega and Walker. |

Get the OBC, I had the "Best of..." recording, then I got the movie soundtrack, until finally I got the OBC recording, I barely listen to the movie soundtrack anymore.
I love Daphne's voice in "Goodbye Love", I think my friend cried the first time she heard it. |

I beg of you: get the OBC. The movie sountrack is dreadful compared to the OBC, and it leaves out half of the music in the show.
Naturally, it's a matter of your own personal preference... But that's my opinion. |

Definetly go with the OBC.

I like them both, I own both, but I would have to say the movie soundtrack. The voices are more matured and have a richer sound, well that is everyone, but Adam....his voice is kinda nasally.

Adam's voice has been completely destroyed in my opinion. It was a bit painful almost at times. But that's just me being a picky little voice therapist who can hear every little bit of damage in people's voices. I would definitely go with the OBC or at least the highlights from the OBC. |

I agree. Just my opinion though However I must admit - Daphne Rubin Vega does an exellent "Out tonight" I can't decide whether I like hers or Rosario's version. The main reason why I like Rosario more is because I found Rubin-Vega....edgy at times. Like, during "Another Day" her "only us" line, she sounded to "belty" where in my opinion I felt it should be softly sung like Rosario's version. Rosario's sounds more innocent and youthful amid all her problems. She definately has a rebellious side to her, but she has a sweet side to her aswell which made me like Mimi a little more. They are still both very good. As for Tracie or Fredi - they are both exellent, however, I think Tracie's voice is my favourite. Tracie's verse in "Take Me or Leave Me" is superb, whereas in Fredi's, its a little too scratchy. However, they both have outstanding performances in general and soulful voices. I think this one is a little more close than Dawson/Rubin Vega. The others - They all matured and their performances are better here (Yes even Adam Pascal's) I would choose the movie soundtrack. But either version is good. If you like to have a variety like myself, buy both. |

| What Is This Feeling? |
I bought the ObC recording! And quite frankly, I couldn't be happier! Lol, sry, but yeh, I definately would suggest bying te OBC recording over the film's soundtrack. After al, that is the OBC recording!!!!

I like the OBC better then the movie soundtrack.

I changed my mind. I would say get both. There are certian songs that sound better with either, a different person or a matured voice. The three songs that I prefer on the soundtrack are: Santa Fe (because of certain vocal inflections that Jesse does that adds to the song and sounds better), I'll Cover You(same reason as Santa Fe, but with Wilson's voice), and Take Me or Leave Me (I love the mesh of voices better than on the Cast Recording and I just the love the chemistry). |
