I'm hypothetically saying what if one of them had to win. I think "Love You I Do" is probably the most fluffy but it has a great melody.

I LOVE (excuse the pun!) the song. Everything about it wants to make me stand up and sing, LOVE IT!!!

Oops... I meant to say a good song in my opinion. But that's how I define a good song: something I want to get up and start singing.

"Love You I Do" is my favorite of the three because I like light, fluffy songs like that. Lol, my favorite song from every musical is usually a fun, up-tempo number. Like Eponine93, I just like songs that are fun to sing.

However, I do agree with Salome that none of the songs truly deserved to win the Oscar. I love the song 'Love You I Do" but IMO it's not really a great song, just a fun bit of fluff. However, the song from "An Inconvenient Truth" was pretty powerful, and I though it deserved the Oscar more.

I thought An Inconvenient Truth tended toward propaganda and played too much on American sentimentalism, particularly as it drew to a close. The song attempts to be a straightforward issue song and I think the reasons for its win were far more to do with political issues and "the right thing to do" than anything to do with craft.

How much impact has the song actually had? I think the fact that people in this thread just refer to it as the "Inconvenient Truth song" rather than by its title, "I Need to Wake Up" is somewhat revealing. And the content of the song is just a spew of general statements that don't make the song particularly effective as an issue song outside of the context of the film. And surely the entire point of an issue song is to bring some specific injustice to light? This song could be speaking out against the suppression of homosexuals, or racism, or bad governance in Zimbabwe. There's nothing in it that really specifies the context of the environment or global warming in the song.

As for "Love You I Do" - yes, it's a light number. But it also achieves exactly what it sets out to achieve in the context of the film - and that's why it's a "great" song. It's one of those great diagetic numbers that manages to establish stuff to do with character and situation.

At any rate, I think - if the Academy had got it right - "Paitence" should have won the Oscar for "Best Song". But of course, the Academy very rarely gets it right and if they had given the award to any of the songs from Dreamgirls it would have probably gone to "Listen", which I think is an all right song but which does not really achieve the kind of dramatic impact I think they were trying to achieve with the number, even if it is a good showpiece for the singer.

Looks like im the only one who votes for Listen. I love LISTEN, i believe its a very powerful song and was perfect for the show and movie.
