Which recording to buy next???Well, I already have the OLC, Canadian, Swedish, Japanese 1992, JAY Studio, Mexican, and film versions of POTO. So what do I get next? I'm debating between the Dutch, Hungarian, Viennese, German, and 1999 Japanese. Does anyone recommend any of these? Any that I haven't listed that are extremely good? Thought you'd be the people to ask.
Thanks,
Ty
PS: Any plan for a new POTO recording? It''s been a while since the Hungarian was released.

Spanish movie dub, for Julia Möller and Juan Carlos Barona. It's a travesty that these two fab alts from the Madrid production never made it to a cast recording.
As for the others, it's different. I'd go for Dutch or Hungarian...Dutch probably just pips it, for Joke de Kruijf.
I think there'll be some kind of recording from the World Tour, possibly, and maybe the Brazilian production.

I highly recommend the original Hamburg and Dutch recordings.

For me, the Viennese cast album is way up there. I love the orchestra, I love the fact that it's a two disc CD and I love the cast (for the most). Truly yummy CD!
The DUtch cast album is also amazing, for many reasons. Especially the cast.
I'm not too crazy about the German (Hamburg) CD: I find it rather dull. There's nothing WRONG with it per se, but I find it very little intriguing. The Hungarian one is one I've listened to only once, due to that darn copyprotection (won't allow me to play it on my Mac, which currently words as my stereo). I liked what I heared, though.
The 1999 Japanese cast is very... European sounding. Can't explain it any better. The Meg annoys the crap out of me, but as all the other Japanese CDs it is of very high standard and with a wonderful orchestra. I also like the cast (for the most).

How about the Glenn Close recording of Sunset Boulevard?
Or some other new show?

I'm really looking for POTOI guess I'm just on a POTO kick at the moment. I already have the Close Sunset, but did buy the OLC of WIW last night. I'm still trying to decide if I like it or not. Great story, though. Anyway, looks like I'll probably buy the Dutch recording because it's so rare, then I'll probably go for the Hungarian CR or the Spanish soundtrack. Thanks for all your advice.

How about staying on topic and suggesting some POTO recordings, as the person had asked in the 1st post?

How many totally different English language recordings of the Phantom are there? And what are they?

Do you have something against me? You're always so argumentative when talking to me.
Olly: Movie, OLC, and Canadian are the most common ones. There are probably some others but those are the only ones I'd bother with.

As far as I know, the only official ones are the OLC, Canadian, and the movie soundtrack.

~Sissi | Plus the studio albums:
1993: Graham Bickley (later replaced with Ethan Freeman), Claire Moore and John Barrowman
1997 (?): Michael Heath, Kira Brönte

It always seems odd to me how many different versions there are of things. And the fact that they are so different is more surpising. It's the same lyrics, the same music, yet a different singer completely changes it. I mean, you can't even compare the original with the movie soundtrack, they are just so far apart. And I never particularly liked the Canadian recording, it just doesn't do it for me.
There's also some death metal versions of "Phantom of the Opera," but I would seriously not reccomed those, they scared me.

If you're going to buy one recording in English? I'd get the Freeman/Moore/Barrowman. They've all played the part and are a damn sight better than the 'official' recordings in my opinion.

I love the Swedish recording, it's my favorite of all the foreign ones.
But if you're going for another I definitely say Viennese. The Vienna cast is awesome, orchestrations are great, Nistler's Christine is probably my favorite of all I've heard.

I agree a 100%. I have all officially released cast albums from POTO, and some of them are just miles apart. The cast really change the whole experience from one CD to another.
The Canadian one never made me swoon either. I like Caine, I like Wilkinson, I like the orchestra - but the pieces just don't match. That's of course MY opinion - I know many has it as their favourite POTO CD.
