which part??? please help!

my high school's fall musical is ITW and I am not sure what role to aim my audition for. I am a sophomore, 5'9", medium length blonde hair, slender body build. As for my vocal range, I can hit pretty low, I sang alto for 4 years, but have recently had a voice change to about a second soprano and am starting to develop a soprano voice although I am not completely comfortable with it yet. I know rapunzel and cinderella call for strong soprano singers so I'm not sure if I'd be good at that. I thought little red might be a possibility but I have been told i'm too tall. Any suggestions would be great!

You seem definitely too tall to be LRRH, but I dunno, it depends on the director, really. As for Rapunzel and Cindy...practice up on hitting those high notes and you could do Cindy. But Rapunzel's definitely a first soprano, but you never know.

How's your belt? If you've got a good belt, definitely consider the Witch.

my belt's pretty good. the only problem with the witch is that there is a senior who everyone knows is perfect for the role, including myself. my director tries not to cast based on seniority, but she's really good.

Well if not Little Red, Cinderella, Rapunzel, or the Witch, try for the Baker's Wife. It's a great role.

Haha, woops. Completely forgot BW. Razz

*Waits for Salome to kill him*

If you're not completely comfortable as a soprano, a step-sister might not be so bad. Admittedly, the roles aren't as meaty or impressive as some of the others, but you get a chance to ham it up a bit -- we've thrown in a lot of sight gags for the sisters in our production, and they always get laughs. Also, I know you said your director tries not to cast by seniority, but it can still happen -- these are good-sized roles for sophomores.

I completely agree. Same with Stepmother. She can really ham it up to. Like, if I were a girl, I'd so wanna be the stepmother.

>_>

i totally forgot about the stepsisters/stepmother. I haven't watched the movie in a year or so, does anyone know about what vocal range they are?
Tenalto

If you count the ensemble numbers, the sisters are around a low A to a high G. If you just count the solo-line-y bits, around a low A to a C sharp. Step-mother goes to something like an F an octave above middle C.
