Which female role needs the best singer?

I'm a soprano with a great range. I sing many alto songs as well as high soprano songs.

I'm auditioning for ITW but am having a hard time researching WHICH role would best fit me.

I'm 32, 5 ft. tall, a bit on the chubby side, and I'm a great singer. My acting is very limited.

I've been in two other musicals, smaller roles. I'm hoping for advice here. I've been reading this forum like mad!

I'm leaning toward rapunzel...???

I can find a list of which characters sing which songs? I've been listening to the songs on itunes (well those I can find) and since I'm not familliar with the show, I can't seem to figure out who is singing what!

i'd say rapunzel has to be a fab singer. she's a fun role, but doesn't do much really, unless your director keeps our little world - a hilarious duet between the witch and rappy. as you've only really done small roles before, i'd say this would be a fab addition to your exp.

btw, what's your range? if you can belt, i can picture you as a fab red riding hood, but then your great singing wouldnt be needed...
Not Dead Yet

Baker's Wife is the best role in my opinion.. I would aim for that.
But it really all depends on range and experience.

i think the witch sings the most but you have to be a REALLY confident actor to get that right... then there's the stepfamily, who have to hold harmonies but are also acting parts...

i'd say that if you're not confident in acting, Rapunzel is a good choice to put on the audition form. also, maybe cindy if you can do comedy quite well

Which needs best singer?
Either Cinderella, Rapunzel, or The Baker's Wife.

Cinderella has a few songs, and sings quite a bit.
Rapunzel doesn't sing very much, but when she does... she sings a lot. Make sense? (not really...)
The Baker's Wife sings the most, and probably the hardest songs. I'd say she needs to be the best female singer.

The Witch also sings a lot, but doesn't have to do very much intense singing.

Can anyone tell me where I can find a list of who sings which songs? I'd love to have a listen Very Happy

Also! GOOD NEWS!

I found a group 2 hours away from me doing ITW this weekend! I'm begging my husband to go with me. It would be great to see this show before I audition!

YAY!

if you go for the baker's wife you MUST be able to read music well, as alot of her stuff is REALLY hard. the only reason i can sing it is because i've been reading music for basically all my life. the accompaniements are also alot more complicated for the BW's songs so you need to be able to make sure you don't just follow the piano!

the witch has to have a really developed voice, so you don't ruin your voice singing stuff like last midnight (which is a killer). you also have to be VERY CONFIDENT in the acting side of it all to do this role well[

Cindy sings a few songs, gets to wear nice outfits etc... quite a large range and a good voice. some comic timing and dramatic genuin stuff is in this part but i think you could play it well

Red has to have a massive belt that sounds young. she sings less than Cindy but more than the Wolf! must be very comfortable with comedy, but MUST be able to do dramatic stuff and touch the audience's heart in every show.

and finally...

Rapunzel must be a FANTASTIC SINGER, but probably won't be nice if you're claustrophobic... anyway, a very fun role IF the director KEEPS OLW. Must have comic timing, even in act 2.

music is my life!!!

as for a list.... i'll do one for each character i've just listed...

Cindy: Prologue, Cindy at the Grave, very nice prince, each of the "midnight"s, on the steps of the palace (her solo), finale of act 1, opening of act 2, last midnight, no one is alone, finale

BW: Prologue, maybe they're magic, each "midnight" , it takes two (with Baker), so happy, any moment, moments in the woods, Finales of both acts

Witch: Prologue (the rapping part), each "midnight", stay with me, ever after, both finales, Lament, your fault, last midnight, finale

Red: Prologue, hello little girl, i know things now (solo), all "midnight"s, both finales, so happy, your fault, last midnight, no on is alone

Rapunzel: first midnight, our little world (if director keeps it), stay with me, ever after, finale

btw please add to the lists if i've missed stuff out

is this okay for you?

WOWZA!!!! HUGE, HUGE help! I really appreciate this!

I found only a partial album on itunes... SO, I'm headed to a larger town tonight to search for the whole thing.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She is too old for Red and the Baker's Wife is first and foremost an actress. I'd say go for Rapunzel, Cinderella's mother or the stepmother/stepsisters.

I can say, as a singer with nonexceptional acting talent who is currently playing the Stepmother, that the step-family would be tough if you think your acting skills aren't up to snuff. Each of the three has minimal singing (just five or six brief solos for the Stepmother and maybe fewer for Florinda and Lucinda) and ... although I wouldn't say the acting is complex, it requires a lot of confidence in your ability.

So, were I you, I'd go for Rapunzel (Cinderella is very much an acting part), or Cindy's mum.

You're short, so if you're in a company that doesn't tend to cast teenagers and kids, Little Red wouldn't necessarily be out of the question.

Rapunzel followed by Cindy and Cindy's mother need to have the prettiest voices, although every character pretty much needs to be able to sing complicted music well, although a good sounding voice isn't nessesary.
