Which Cats costume style do you like best? why?

You're also welcome to share other styles I have not listed.

I mostly like the London costumes...Then again I do prefer the the calico-style Broadway Bombalurina.

I'm partial to the Broadway versions as I grew up with the US version of the show. The German costumes rank a very close second.

Ohhh, that's a tough one! I've voted for Japan, as they have a wonderful way of making the costumes SO traditionally Cats, instantly recognisable, yet also so undeniably Japanese. They cultural influence is unmistakable, and the combination is just gorgeous!!!

But it's a tie for me with the London-style - well, more specifically the way the London designs have been adapted in recent years in the european productions. I adore the vibrant colours and strong patterning, particularly of the Russian cast - and makeup that's stronger than the video, yet softer than the older european and american productions.

Personally I don't get on with the Broadway/US tour designs - they're so washed out in comparison to the London-based designs, and the thick flat makeup looks more clown-like than feline. I'm sure it's effective in making out features from the back of a vast theatre, but close-up it really puts me off!

The London costumes are my favorite, hands down. I love the colors they use.

Like Belle, it really is a tough choice. Since I restarted enjoying CATS because of the video, I tend to identify with the UK version. With the video, you tend to get spoiled because you can watch it repeatedly, and even replay certain sections until you can ID any character. With the Broadway colors (or US Tour), some of the characters can get confusing after a while unless you can pick out details and make them stick in your mind.

Now the Japanese? I have a couple of the flyers from that version, and they take a bit of changing in your mind. The colors used by the costume and makeup make for very bold designs. Once you do identify the characters, they become easier to find. Although I will probably never see this version, I have heard the music, and I can only imagine the choreography. I imagine it is very much like the music and character, and very sensational. THe Macavity fight scene must be out of this world...

I will vote UK only because I am used to it by video and seeing the UK Tour.

Although I like the bold colors of the UK version.....it's overdone in my opinion. You see the same costumes over and over again and nothing really seems new when new productions come out and they have yet another UK replica. .....And I still think the black and white Alonzo's makeup looks more like a dog than a cat.
I like the earthy almost ruggedness of the US version. And the first time I saw CATS was the fourth national tour almost a full decade before the video came out.
I also enjoy the originality of the Japanese costumes as well as the bold colors. It's original while still being recognizeable for the most part.

I ended up voting for Broadway because I have a fond memory of seeing the Broadway production before it closed. However, I must admit it's pretty much a tie between the Broadway and Japanese costumes.

I love the Unique style of the Japan costumes best, THe cute innocent flair each character has to it's concept. I Adore the sweet undertones and japanese influence, And a white Tugger... White Tugger Nuff said!

My preferences vary, but I like some from Broadway and some from London. But I really love the German designs.
