Which copy recording

I want to buy a copy of Sunset Boulevard, but do not know which.

As far as I am are there are two recordings. Is that right? American Premiere Recording and the World Premiere Recording. (I am sure there is probably more than that so oops if there is Embarassed ).

So can someone please direct me to which is the best recording to buy.

Many thanks Very Happy

I like the US recording with Glenn Close.

Have a look at the webpage.

The London cast recording is my personal favorite.
You might like the Broadway one if you like a Norma who cannot sing.

The American recording is the only one worth it. Glenn Close is Norma. period. her voice her demeanor her looks..she is perfect. George Hearn is the epitome of Mx. and Alan Campbell is perfectly hardend as Joe.

Lupone is dreadful overdoing it as usual..and playing patti not norma. she is unlistenable. and Kevin Anderson is blans and boring as Joe.

American cast is the only way to go.

thanks for that. Looks like Americal recording it is then. Will let you know what I think.

wtf from a LuPone in Sweeney Todd fan? Cute...

Get Glenn Close.

It's the most complete recording of the show, and she won a Tony for a reason, wether you guys like her personally or not.

It's my personal favorite too, but i'm not going to factor that into it. C:0

She won he Tony because their was one other person nominated that year. And I like Glen Close personally and as an actress...just not when she sings.

I have heard Glenn in Barnum,Sunset Boulevard, and South Pacific, and her voice is consistently paper-thin.

I saw Patti in London and Glenn in LA....Patti was SO much better! Glenn appeared to us like a troll...I don't know if that was a director's choice or Glenn's but it didn't work for the show...

I have Patti's (the London's) recording....nothing beats the original!

everything beats that piece of junk. the london Sunset is one of the single worst recordings out there.

Thanks for starting this thread! It really helped me decide which recording to get. I was really torn between them, mainly because LuPone is on one and Hearn on another...WHY COULDN'T THEY HAVE BEEN TOGETHER!?!?!? Anyway I went with the American Premire recording with Hearn...someday I'll get the other one I'm sure because I Love Patti's voice soooo much. Anyway thanks!
Salome

well..you wont likePatti as Norma. but Glenn,George,Judy and Alan are amazing on the one you bought. the London cast is but a pale shadow.

I'm kind of divided on which recording is the best. The Broadway is better all around, but Norma's voice on that one isn't great. I got both.

I love the arrangement of "WITH ONE LOOK" on the OLC recording! The tempo and the key fit better to the song than on the American recording.

But otherwise I prefer the American recording. I like the changes they made to it. And it is far more complete.

Plus the performances are generally much better. (Though I have to say, in all fairness, that the performances on the OLC recording suffer from the cuts made to the dialogue and the scenes!)

I've been assinged sunset boulevard by my singing teacher for an audition. I love Michael Ball, John Barrowman, and Hugh Jackman's protrayal of the song, but recording wise I'm not sure which one to get. The LA cast or The Canadian Highlights. LA cause George Hearn is in it!!! but Canadian cause Rex Smith is in it and I love him in everything else. Plus Rex sings the song whilst George doesn't. So who's the best Joe Gills?
Salome

Best Joe.. Alan Campbell

Best Norma....Glen Close

best Max... George Hearn

I got the LA cast and I'm ordering The Canadian cast along with the London cast of City of Angels and the movie Sunset Boulevard.
