Which CD?I have never been a real fan of this show so I never bothered to buy a recording. But our theatre company is doing it for the Spring show. Auditions are in November, so I'd like to start getting more familiar with the music.
I'd like any suggestions on which recording you think is the best one to buy. (And which one is closest to the original score)
Thanks!

my three favorites are the OBC with Ezio Pinza and Mary Martin
the film with mitzi Gaynor and the studio recording with Jose Carreras and Kiri TeKanewa.
tekanawa isnt a good nellie but the rest of the cast is outstanding.
the only good thing about the concert are the brilliant Brian Stokes Mitchell and the amazing Lilas White.
McIntyre is dreaful as Nellie.

Haha! I'd have to agree on that...I caught part of it when it aired on PBS. Needless to say I didn't watch it very long.
Thanks for the suggestions!

Do you have to ask? A little hint: Anything with Mary Martin will be good. She has such a beautiful voice and gives such life to her songs. She is and will always be my favorite Nellie, Maria, and Peter Pan.

While I thoroughly enjoy SOM, SP, IDID, and PP with Mary Martin, and for that matter "My Heart..." from Leave It To Me, I much prefer the 1990 Nonesuch/Roxbury Girl Crazy with Lorna Luft (Liza Minnelli's half-sister) to the Columbia Girl Crazy studio recording with MM - chiefly because the arrangements on the 1990 version are better, and songs are assigned according to role.

Now I know my choice isn't on this list, but have you thought about the 2002 London Royal National Theatre Revival cast with Philip Quast? It is beautifullyrecorded and everyone seems to just feel for their parts. Philip Quast gives a human rendition of Some Enchanted... by employing his glorious voice and yet performing "in character".
